Gosh I didn't imagine I would have so many others that share their interest in boxers! I have to give a very sad update however. My boxer baby Bubba Jazz passed away January 7th of this year. He wa**** by a car and died instantly. It was one day after my 17yr son's birthday. So many people in our hometown mourned his loss along with us. He was very much loved and had one heck of a wonderful although short life. I miss him terribly. I did get another boxer baby. His name is Gunnar. He and Jazz are opposite ends of the spectrum. He is a tirad. He ate parts of my couch and got a hold of some gorilla glue all over my living room carpet! I love him bunches but I just wish he wasnt so bad! I really enjoyed reading what each of you wrote about your boxers and other animals. Thanks for replying all of this was worth the read even a year later. Bonnie

So Sorry to hear about you lil girl. It is hard right now, but you did the right thing. The one thing I cannot handle is to watch my dogs in pain. It breaks my heart. I have 3 boys, yorkie, schnauzer, boston, they are my kids, and I love them dearly. I feel for you, May God be with you in your time of sorrow. God Bless Jackie C

O.k. I just have to put this tail to paper! We have one dog. Shes a big dog! G.S.D./ Akita/ Greyhound. We live in a smallish apartment and where not looking to add on to our canidae side of the family. We had just returned from Canada and I had just picked Kiera (The BIG girl) up from the hotel. (I dare not call it a kennel!) We were enjoying a bit of a snack (On only the most rarest of occasions I will buy her a cheese burger- she relishes every moment of them as she gets maybe three a year) O.K. yes I was trying to bribe her. As we were sitting there in the shade of a tree in the back of the Explorer with the gate down and the windows all open to catch the breeze, we noticed a bit of a parade. There was this woman who was chasing this smallish brown dog all over the street. she had 2 people trying to help her and the dog was obviously not interested in ending the game. I knew my presence would add to the idea of it being a game so I sat back and watched. This dog had them all traipsing thru traffic, up and down the side walk etc... This went on for a good 20 mins. when all of a sudden the dog froze, turned looked at me (And I swear started to smile) Started running right for me leaped into the truck made her way up to the passenger seat and just sat there. Looking at me like O.K., let's go. Meanwhile Kiera has only given her a passing sniff and is sitting in her spot right behind the seat (no dogs in the front, and they have to be belted in) The people chasing the dog finally catch up at my truck and angerly demand to know if she belongs to me. I try to say no, I have never seen her before, but they look at her looking at me while seated in the passengers seat. I know there is no way they believe me, so I explain that I have been out of country and have only just returned. I even showed them my kennel slip showing boarding for 1 dog for 14 days. They believed me after that, but none of them could take her. I said ok fine, I'll take her home and drop her at the SPCA in the morning. (I swear I heard snickering from up front!) When we got to my place, she walked right over to Kieras' bed and lied down. No sniffing, no investigating- It was like she even knew where the bed was. After an hour or so, she got up and walked to the kitchen pantry where the water bowl was and had a drink. SHE KNEW WHERE IT WAS WITHOUT LOOKING! She and My Kiera hit it off so well that My DH and I decided to give her a chance first. And here she has been ever since. I know that she has had major surgery on her neck as the result of an imbedded collar, but other than that she has been a pretty good pup. Her name is Morgan but i end up callin her Moose most the time. She loves people and has fit right into our cramped family. She even likes our kitties! Just kind of amazes me how they find us when they need us!

When I lost my bestest pal in the world I cried my heart out. I feel your pain. But know that you did the best thing you could. You gave a final act of kindness, the most special gift. The gift of a painless passing. A dear friend gave me a copy of this poem and it made me feel much better. I pass it on to you now, and hope it has the same healing sentiments it held for me. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown... I have a lot of friends waiting for me at that bridge. And it brings a tear to my eye everytime I read those words. As I know that I will not have to make that crossing alone. If you are interested there is a website that sets up memorials for our friends that pass on. http://rainbowsbridge.com/Poem.htm It's a very touching place.

Oh Lisa, I understand excactly how you feel right now. I had to do the same a few years back with my loyal pay of 11 years. she too had a tumor and it was suggested I let her go. The guilt is horrible at first I know. but when you start to heal you will see you made the right decision. It was a selfless act. you made her pain go away and took pain on yourself. She is not suffering anymore and you saved her from months of pain. She is fine now, and she is not hungry either. she has an abundance of bones, snacks , toys and other dogs to play with now. My thoughts are with you. I am a dog lover for sure. take care Deb

Sounds like a cute lil bugger! I would suggest calling your vet or a local vet and ask them for suggestions. Also, stores like Petsmart have dog training class, perhaps they could help you. If all else fails try your local shelters.. they often provide obedience training and hints. Good Luck with that! - Candie

Josie, As I read your message, tears are rolling down my face, I'm sooooo sorry. It brings back memories of losing my pal, my best friend "Lulu", my chow mix. Don't feel guilty, as you said she was in extreme pain, that should make you feel at peace knowing she is not in pain anymore. We will always remember them as loving, caring and giving companions that we will hold in our hearts forever. It took me a couple of years to not cry when I spoke of my "Lulu dog" I will always remember the little red ball of fur when I first saw her. Those memories I will cherish forever. Take Care Jeannie

My daughter and I go to a horse and tack auction every other Saturday night, well 3 weeks ago this little girl brought over a cute, cuter than cute, puppy, a corgi~jack russell mix. It was love at first site. I held her in my arms and she just lay there asleep, so peacefully. And of course we said yes , we would love to take her. We named her "Dixie". I took her over to my friends house the next day where she removed a dew claw (just one) that was hanging on her foot. Again she was as cool as a cucumber. I went down to my local feed store and purchased her shots and I gave her first shot no problem. Her lies the problem: Its 3 weeks later and this puppy rules the roost around here, our lab is sick of having his ears chewed on, our cats are always hanging out in the highest places, because she chases them every chance she gets. My big cat slaps and boxes Dixie but it just makes Dixie even madder. Now my big cat is running from her. So then it was time for her second dose (shot) and I could not do it, she growls, bit, squirmed and fought. I was sooo mad. She growls at us to get her way, if we are near her food, she will snap at us, my daughter trys to scold her when she does do it, but she will growl and snap more.....WHAT DO I DO????? HELP ME, I HAVE THE CUTEST VICIOUS PUPPY THAT WE STILL LOVE AND ADORE. Any suggestions are welcome! Jeannie
