LOL, I love that name! That is a sweet story and Dan, our sheltie is doing so much better now. I guess all he needed was time.

Thanks Heather, we decided a few days ago to give it more time. He is getting better with them. He actually lets them get near him now and they can eat out of his food bowl which really flips me out. I don't think u r pathetic, u sound like us! We love our kids and our furkids! Thanks, we're kind of proud of all of them I put a pic of the babies on my profile earlier...

Topic: RE: ball dog
Hi Cynthia! Luckly, I have two dogs (Newfoundlands) that are very low energy. They like to play ball with these big rubber balls with handles, but they only last 10 minutes max. I don't give them tennis balls because of the choking factor (they have big mouths and throats). Is this your only dog? If so, do you have a dog park near by where you could take him to play with other dogs? Or, is there a doggie day care in your area where he could play all day while you are at work...that might tire him out some. Also, I was thinking that maybe an automatic ball thrower like they have for batting practice would be a great "playmate" for him. I have no idea if you can even buy something like them at K-Mart or Walmart or how expensive they would be, but it might be worth looking into. I'm guessing the speed and strength of the pitch can be adjusted. You could set that up and let him go crazy chasing all the balls while you put your feet up and sip some iced tea. It would probably be a riot to watch him chasing all those balls

Angela,
Your puppies are SO cute!!! I think I have caught puppy fever again LOL Im "puppy" is now 3 years old and his name is Tucker...I named him Tucker because i was all "tuckered out" for the first week I had him....We didn't sleep for 5 nights straight because he had his days and nights mixed up.
Glad to hear your older dog is coming around!

Hi Karly! I was reading your profile. I have a Master's in Special Education too! I taught early intervention for almost 10 years, both in the classroom and as an itinerant teacher.

Hi Angela,
Your male dog will get used to them. I have an 8 year old female Newfoundland that is 110 pounds and a 3 year old male Newf. that is 190 pounds. My female is in charge and will kick his butt when she needs too LOL. She doesn't hurt him, just shows him who is boss...the funny thing is, he runs into the bushes like "ha ha, you can't get me!" The first day I brought him home, she got out of the fenced in yard and ran away from home! She was so mad. She returned about an hour later, but had an attitude about him for about a year. Now they snuggle and kiss and play out in the yard. She is (and always has been) an absolute princess and a spoiled princess at that. They are my kids...the house is full of stuffed animals, toys (and toy boxes), doggie blankets, etc. I even take them swimming in my parents pool, take them thru the drive through at McDonalds for plain hamburgers and they get stockings at Christmas. Yes, I am pathetic
The important thing is to let your dogs work it out and unless your male is hurting them, don't step in. They need to learn he is the boss. He will come around and enjoy being "big brother" to them. It is also important to greet him first, make a fuss over him first, feed him first, etc. Like all men, he needs his ego stroked
I really struggled with that at first (I thought it was so unfair LOL) but they are pack animals and it is natural for them. He is adorable! I saw his pic on your profile.
Good luck! Enjoy them...puppies are sooooo cute and sooooo much fun!

Topic: New puppy pics
I added pics of our 2 new puppies at the bottom of my profile page. Their kind of big, when I tried to downsize with photobucket they got too small. Oh well. Finally, our sheltie is acting much better around the new babys. He still doesn't want to be their best friend but he is tolerating them alot better. The tan one is Lady a shep mix, she sweet and kind of shy, a mommas girl
... The white one is Snowball a samoyed mix. She's everyones girl! We've barely had them a week and love them so much already..Well, if u have time take a look at our new additions and let me know what ya think.
Hugs

the best place to look is the human society. These dogs will be so greatful you saved their lives. Many times elderly people can no longer keep there beloved little pets, and are sad to part with them and take them to a shelter. Check out the classified adds in the newspaper, or look online. There are probably rescue places that rescue any particular dog your looking for. also go to www.petfinder.com and type in your city or zip. Good luck to you and I hope you find the perfect companion. Rosemary
