Touching reaction to my weight loss

Yesterday I drove north for four hours to visit a woman who's about my age that I met on the boards last year. She was originally pursuing the RNY, got approved, then opted out at the last minute because she's decided she wants to go for a DS. Because she's dealing with weird insurance issues (having to do with coverage, period, not just coverage of WLS), she's still in the early stages of going after it. She visited me in Delano at the motel when I was recovering from my DS last December, and I haven't seen her since, though we keep in touch through our blogs and email. I met her, her fiance and another friend she'd made on the boards at a restaurant yesterday afternoon. I was late and walked in long after the others had gathered and eaten their meal, and this woman stood up, said, "Oh my god, look at you!" and started to cry. She hugged me and said, "You look so healthy and glowing!" and kept on crying. Her tears were about both her happiness for me and her own desire for the DS, I think: she suffers from Type II diabetes (as I do, or did, or am recovering from, or however one puts it), has bad neuropathy in her feet, doesn't care for hot weather ... all very familiar to my from my own experience. Understandably she's frightened of surgery, though, and as I said, she's got some things she needs to do before it can happen. So let's offer up some collective good vibes for her. She's got a lot going on in her life right now (some of it good stuff!), and I hope she finds the focus and strength to do what she needs to do to get the surgery she wants. That is so great, Alison! I so hope things fall in line for her. I know she has been through a lot trying to get the insurance to cooperate. I'm sending more feathers her way. Jeanie

Alison- Thanks for sharing that touching story. Just think, last year you probably would not have felt up to the long drive to meet with your new friend! And, her greeting was perfect, "You look so healthy and glowing!" She is absoluting correct you do look healthy and glowing (at least in your new picture). Valerie

Alison- You have just described so many of us, she is me and that lady over there and that one over there, oh and that one over there too. That is not to say she is not special however, because I believe we are all special. Of course we will send her our best wishes and prayers. Red

Alison This brought a tear to my eye, literally. Thank God there are wonderful people like this gal and you who walk the earth. And thank God for the DS. Kathy

What a nice experience, Alison. It is touching and I agree, she used the BEST words to describe how you are looking these days - healthy and glowing. It sure shines through in your pictures. Best to your friend. Starr http://starrgirlsworld.blogspot.com
