Wendy's chili or Tim Hortons
Hey just curious if this sits well with any of you? I am dying for some chili but worry that it might make me sick. How many of you eat it and if the Canadians could let me know about the Timmy's chili that would be great.
Also at what point did you start eating bread? My surg say's 12 weeks but I am dying for PB toast.
Thanks
Kelly
I don't really do bread so I can't help you with that... I had a piece of garlic bread last night and regretted it big time. I thought my insides were going to explode!
I have had chili - with ok success. Take a look at the nutional information on the websites - go for the one with the lowest carbs as a starter. Then go for taste. I prefer Wendy's and it seems to sit fine. I have also had Chaps Chili. In all of them I get extra cheese.
Good luck!
Kelly,
I had my surgery the day before you, and I have already consumed small amounts of bread. My surgeon did not give me restrictions on bread, but I did follow the advice of some fellow DSers and I only eat the WHOLE GRAIN bread. I have eaten toast, minus the crust, and I have also eaten the bread w/ tuna fish on it, again, minus the crust. Each time the bread sat fine with me, but use your own judgements on the carbs. If carbs make you gassy, I would stay away from the bread. I have not found too many things that DO make me gassy, but I think I'm just one of the lucky ones. AND...I know that could change any day now...LOL.
As for chili, I found that homemade sits WAY better on my tummy than something store bought. Then again, those beans were the first thing that gave me gas, which was tolerable, but unpleasant.
Good luck!!

Wendy's here. I added lots of cheddar cheese and some sour cream.
I ate a couple of crackers after 4 weeks, with tuna salad on them. One of the bad things about bread is it can sneek up on ya. It might soak up the liquid in your tummy and expanded. If you are going to eat it, cut you off a quarter of a piece and put that on your plate. Don't take the whole piece with ya from the kitchen. If you're like me, you might eat it before you think. Don't eat any more than that at first, and see how you handle it. It might take 10 or 15 minutes before you know how it is going to 'lay'.
Good luck and good eats.

Whole wheat is the only bread I have eaten. I found a low carb, high fiber with 7gr protein per thin slice. I only ate it heavyly toasted untill about 4 mos out. Ritz crackers are good too....they mush very well. Wendys chili worked from about 4 weeks and I love Taco Bell...insides of just about all of it.
Ask you surgeon about toast...even though its bread its a different consistency then plain bread.

Hey Kelly
Here's the deal with Chili- I tried Tims chili early out and it did not sit well at all- since you are so early out, I personally think the fat content would give you the trots, there's 19 grams of fat in a Tims chili, PLUS, they just switched over and it now comes powdered which is just gross, I had some today actually and it wasn't the same as it used to be.
Wendys chili has much less fat ( you'd have to eat 2 LARGE Wendys chili's and then some to equal the fat in one Tims chili) and in my opinion, it just tastes better and is meatier. You could probably eat a small one which has 6 grams of fat and 17 grams of protein.
As for bread- everyone is different, I'm six months post op and still have trouble tolerating bread- it sits very heavy and gives me foamies most of the time. What about crackers with peanut butter? I could tolerate a few crackers 2 weeks post-op.
Cheers
Jen
