lap band and MRI
I had my lap band done in July 07. Is it safe to have a MRI done? I would think that it would be but I'm not sure what kind of material is in the port and what the doctor uses to attach the port insidethe the body.
I can call my doctor on Monday and ask but I hope someone can tell me now.
Thanks, kim
You can let them know you have one but you will be fine. I already posed that question to my surgeon and he said a lapband will not prevent me form getting an MRI done or cause complications.
I too have some surgical steel in me from clamped tubes instead of the old cut and tie method. They have been there for 20+ years and after several MRI's they are still there.
My lapband info said you can have an MRI with the lapband. I went for an MRI recently and the tech had to look it up, because she had never had a payient with one. They are fine for MRI but she said there is a certain very strong MRI that you cannot have, I forgot the units she said. But she said my MRI (of the knee) was 3 and the limit of whatever units is 20.
