My surgeon said either is correct.  I pronounce it odd.

I say it like #1 but I don't know if I'm right or not.  I wondered if it was one of those words that is pronounced differently depending on where you are from (Northern accent or Southern).   I Dunno

I like #1, but so many around here in Indiana say du-ODD-en-ul that I've mostly converted.  I still feel that du-o-dee-nul is better, but if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! Lori

I say it du-ODD-en-ul  but every time I hear it the other way, I feel like I am saying it wrong... It feels like the person saying it the other way is thinking, damn, she had the surgery and doesnt even know how to say it.. haha

Love this topic.  I recall in junior high (back in the '20's) in science class, Mr. Morganstein pronounced it 'duodeeeeeenum'.  That's how I pronounced it for years.  Then one day, I heard this British guy with a full out foo foo accent say 'duoddddenum' and it sounded so classy and proper.  So when it came time to vocalize the name of my proposed surgery, I went for class (perhaps to compensate for a dire lack of it in other areas).  I say Du-odd-enal Switch, old chap.

GREAT question! I was thinking about this, too. My surgeon prounounced it as you have in #1, so I go with that. My DH would tell you he just prefers to day "DS". LOL

I like just using the "DS" surgery!  That way it's not wrong or right.  Mostly I do #1. chris

Well, in the hospital, while drugged up, I pronounced it "Mmbedodummm". In the South, I suspect it's something like, "Duoden-y'all". In the West, it's "Duo-doe-see-doe-all". In Canada, "Dooo-'Oh-Dee-Naul" (pronounced the same, but with an extra 'u'.) Okay, I'll shut-up.
