I was wondering (don't mean to gross anyone out) but has anyone experienced a odor when Urinating?  I seem to have a strange smell when I go to the bathroom.  Could this be from the medication received in the hospital.  I was banded on 03/10/08.  It's not a real bad smell just smells kind of mediciny.

I wouldn't think that is too unusual. Make sure your urine is not too "concentrated" by drinking plenty of fluids. Water, water, water!  I have noticed that after surgery, everything kind of tastes like medicine. Probably very similar.

If it's very yellow then it's probably going to be a strong smell.  You need to drink more and then it will become almost clear and the smell will go away.  i know it's probably tough for you to drink a lot so soon after surgery but just keep sipping and you'll get in more fluids.

Bladder infections usually include a strong odor.

Also note if your urine is cloudy, this can also be a symptom of a bladder infections.

Infections are dangerous after surgery, but totally controllable if caught early.

Mention it to your doctor.

I was told by my dr. it was from the meds.  Drink lots of water, it goes away. Michelle

Probably the meds leaving your body.  And you maybe are not drinking enough water?  You need to stay well hydrated for many reasons and allowing your kidneys to flush toxins out is one.  The smell will dissipate tho.

Some antibiotics can make your urine have a distinctive smell.  I always know when my patient is on IV ampicillin.  Lol! Some foods can also change the smell of your urine.  Asparagus is the most notable of these.  As everyone else has mentioned, infection can also make the urine smell strange.  If you have pain upon urination, difficulty starting the urination, excessive frequency, lower back pain, or fever, then you need to see your doctor.
