protein drinks and jello..BLAH! Isopure?
So, i'm looking to really stick to the liquid diet i'll be on for a while...and found some 100% whey protein isolate powders/drink mixes. They taste like JELLO. BLAH!!! like, un-solid liquid barff jello *lol* and i hate HATE Splenda. UGH how i hate it, it makes me gag! so like, jello-splenda-gag-fest. I just want a zero suger, zero carb, 100% whey protein powder that doesn't taste like jello..or splenda, or both *lol* i can handle the splenda more than the jello-effect. SO! i've tried Nectar brand...Bleh! I've tried Jay Rob brand...BLEH! and biochem brand...Bleh! before i really tried things, my husband and i ordered Nature's Best Zero Carb Isopure. has anyone tried that? Any reccomendations?
thanks!!!!!!

But, don't count on liking the same things post-op as you do now. Your taste buds could very well do a 180 on you. Keep some samples on hand and don't buy tubs of anything until after your DS.

Are you talking about before your surgery diet? Do you have to go on a liquid protein diet?
If this is for after the surgery then I will bring my protein powder I had after my surgery. I buy it at Walmart. It is vanilla whey powder and it is the only one I can stand the taste. Everything is to sweet after surgery. No aspartame, 46 grams protein in two scoops, 2 grams of carbs and you can mix it with whatever you want. I used rice milk. This is it ... http://www.bodyfortress.com

i don't actually need to be on a diet before the surgery. it's for after the surgery, but you don't have to bring anything unless you want to..we can brave the walmart here and go shopping!

May I be frank?
Isopure tastes like ass. Plain and simple. But, it is GREAT protein. I bought umpteen bottles of it before my surgery and tried it, hated it, but said hey, ill keep them because afterward i wont be able to eat anything anyway for a long time.
Nope, the Isopure made me gag. I had to use my tube to get the stuff in. I think theres still a bottle of it somewhere in my fridge. IM not gonna drink it.
But--you may very well like it. If you hate Jello, then I can't imagine you liking this stuff. (I am of course talking about the fruity drinks in the glass bottles, the powder I never even bothered with)
You won't be able to get all 100+g of protein in at first anyway, so don't stress it. Just get in what you can. Slowly you will build up to the amount you need. (tip:scrambled eggs are the best and very easy on your healing stomach)
So excited for you! Its such a trip!
no i really appreciate the honesty. that's what i was worried about was that nasty flavor and it always seems to be accompanied by that weird smell! hopefully it will be better with the powders...i had thought about the premade stuff, but now i'm glad i didn't go for it!!

I couldn't do any protein drinks for months and months post op. My helpful hint is to remember that the general rule of thumb is 90 grams of protein by 90 days post-op - so take your time. Oh yeah, that and also shrimp seemed to go down pretty easy as far as protein sources go.
Are you preparing for a pre- or post- op liquid protein diet? - - and why?
2 week post-op diet is liquid, then 2 weeks after that soft foods. i had been looking for some low car low suger stuff! we'll see how it goes.

Best way to go is to check out some samples at www.vitalady.com ... my two personal favorites that are whey isolates -
Champion Pure Whey Chocolate Stack
IDS Vanilla Cinnamon
Others rave about Champion Pure Whey Banana Scream.
Don't buy a big jug of any of it as your tastes WILL CHANGE after surgery. Almost guaranteed!

It ALL sucks! It sucked even worse for me as a post op, too. There was no pleasure with eating for several months post op. I did that crap because I had to, but it inspired me to eat and get my protein with food so I could say goodbye forever to those horrible drinks.
