Can we not lose it ALL??

I guess that would also depend on your post-op either way.  But I was told to stop eating nuts and popcorn and focus on fruits for snacks.  I was told not to eat cheese, but drink milk or eat fruit.  So, IMO that WOULD slow down weightloss . . . and I was told by people who have had my surgeon early on that they were never told to go low carb.

That is good to know.  I just see an awful lot of references to low carb, low sugar, low fat on the main board.  Thanks for the information.

I too see alot of very knowledgeable, proactive, right on surgeons - but I really do live with the opposite.  My surgeon is a genius IMO, but his post-op/aftercare is soooo lacking!  Which is why I cringe sometimes when I read people being told 'check with your surgeon' or 'you should be going by your surgeon's vitamin guidelines' cuz it just can't happen for me!  Examples:  I asked for a letter for taxes/flex plan stating that I need to supplement due to malabsorbtion.  I basically wrote it, leaving it very general.  The letter I got back said I need to take 1500mg calcium, a multi vitamin, and 2 ADEK's per day.  This is AFTER my 3 month labs that had my D at 15 (range of 20-100) and my A at 33 (range of 38-98).  I was also never contacted to change from 2 ADEK's after my labs were drawn.  A woman in my support group had her D at 9 and was told to increase her ADEK to 3 per day, but doc's PA.  They truly don't get it, and it scares me what they're telling people who don't get support here or elsewhere.  There is a very informed woman who runs her own support group, separate from the hospital run one (which is also mostly RnY postops) who does a good job informing people who attend - but no guarantee a post-op is going to go, or listen.  So . . . . . not everyone gets the great post-op that I see from many on here, and I suspect it was the case with even more a few years ago.

Not enough.  and his PA, nurses, and NUT are all RnY brained.  You just gotta nod your head and then come back here to get the correct info (IMHO that is)

Lisa, Kym and I were all around the same height and weight (5'5-5'6 and 280-ish) to start, and we all lost 100%.  Kym and I are further out, and have been maintaining our weight for over a year.  It IS possible with the DS.  Some who are SSMO or SMO, may not make it to 100%, but 85% is a phenomenal difference.

Hiya I'm one of the "other end of the statistics" people.  For everyone that loses 100% of their EWL, there is someone who loses 50%.  I'm that 50%. I lost great for the first 7 months and then stopped completely.  I regained 10lbs by letting my DS do all the work and then lost 5 of those pounds by working at it.  So my net loss has been 70lbs and that is about 51% EWL for me.  For the past nearly 8 months I have had to work at staying at this weight and not regaining.  I'm diligent about keeping my protein high and my carbs low, and of course vitamin supplements are a must.  (For the number crunchers out there my protein exceeds 90gr per day, carbs are below 50 - frequently well below 50 -, and overall calories hover somewhere around 1200 - 1500.)  The DS is absolutely the most powerful and effective weight loss surgery available to us with the combination of the restriction and the malabsorption.  However the other factor in our weight loss surgery is how our body functions - and everybody's functions differently.  There is absolutely no way to know or figure in all the factors and come up with a guaranteed outcome.  The thing is, you will end up with the best outcome possible with the DS - no doubt about that.
