How common is friendship-loss after WLS???

I have to agree with you, some of the friendship losses are by choice. I am more willing to stand up for myself now, and I no longer put up with some of the crap I used to. If it isn't a mutual friendship, then I don't need it, anyway!  And jealousy sucks! It's not like you can help it that you are smoken hot!

Yes jealousy does suck. And I don't flaunt my looks, im actually quite humble about them(but when I say I am better looking now than said exfriends thats no lie). Never did I know I looked like this, after 20 years of being overweight/obese (ever since age 2) Its still hard to grasp and know it will take me awhile. But I will NEVER hold the attitude of I am SOOOO HOT. Just ain't me. Im not a lime light type of girl. I like the behind the scenes....you know the ones that do the REAL work, lol. But I have thoes few friends who have stuck by me through so much. And we just didnt realize how close we really were, till we both basically got betrayed/used by what we though were best friends. Go figure.

I lost some close friends last year when I left my husband (divorce is contagious I guess) so the friends that stuck by me through thick and thin are the ones I chum with now and are my "rocks".  They're my true friends!  The others would have just left me as my fat melted off anyways no doubt!

I have not lost any close friends yet, I've mostly just gained a lot of new ones in addition to the great ones I already had.  I think I'm a better friend now because I like going out more and I can do more things that my friends like to do. I do worry about one friend in particular.  She's a little on the heavy side and has been on a diet consistently for as long as I've known her, pretty much.  I used to be bigger than her and now I'm smaller, and she keeps trying to feed me and tells me I'm starving myself.  I'm not sure how she'll react the next time I see her. My family has all been terrific.  They are so happy for me.  I think it helps that my family has always been normal sized, so there's definitely no jealousy involved.

I've only encountered a couple, and it wasn't a big loss in my book.

my cousin had an RNY, lost a lot of weight...  her attitude changed drastically, and not totally for the good.  she got a big head.  i was very supportive of her, but we were never close in the first place (plus i really don't care for her husband, so that has inhibited any potential friendship)...  i only mention it because i can see how some people might not like all the changes they see in someone who's lost a lot of weight.   not that that makes it okay to abandon them - just give them a little reality check every once in a while *** i'm sorry but you do realize Brad Pitt is taken, and that Angelina MIGHT be a bit much when it comes to competition, right?). i hope that i never get that kind of ego.  i almost hope for the once-a-fatty-always-a-fatty thing to be stuck in my head.

I'm kind of a lonely person with not that many friends, so my opinion may not mean much. All in all, among the people who know me, I have not had any real negative reactions. Most have been openly supportive. Though, I should note, except for my mother, I didn't actually tell anyone I was going to do it.  Everyone else found out after.
