How do you pronounce duodenal?

The nurse at the hospital I first went to (where the DS is not performed) said du-ah-DEE-nal.  My mom's doc says du-ODD-en-al.  A doctor in a video I watched online said du-ah-DEE-nal.  My psych said du-ODD-en-al.  Who's right, or are there two ways to say it?  I said du-ah-DEE-nal and got corrected.  Then I said du-ODD-en-al and also got corrected.  Blah.

I say I got the Switch.
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

Being a surgical nurse, I always said du-ah-DEE-nal. I've heard one person say it the other way and thought they said it wrong. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/mplusdictionary.html  Main Entry: du·o·de·num Pronunciation: secondarystressd(y)ü-schwa-primarystressdemacron-nschwam, d(y)udot-primarystressäd-schwan-schwam Function: noun Inflected Form(s): plural -de·na /-primarystressdemacron-nschwa, -schwan-schwa /; or -de·nums : the first, shortest, and widest part of the small intestine that in humans is about 10 inches (25 centimeters) long and that extends from the pylorus to the undersurface of the liver where it descends for a variable distance and receives the bile and pancreatic ducts and then bends to the left and finally upward to join the jejunum near the second lumbar vertebra - du·o·de·nal /-primarystressdemacronn-schwal, -schwan-schwal/ adjective [duodenum illustration]

I've always heard the organ itself pronounced du-ODD-enum, so it seems like the surgery would be called the du-ODD-enal switch... but all the docs offices I've talked to call it the du-oDENAL switch... go figure! Kyle

From what I can tell from what I found on the web, both are correct pronunciations.

I used to pronounce it Dew-wa-ja-nal switch, because my health teacher in High schools used to refer to it as the Dew-wa-ja-num.  And that just stuck with me, and I have prononced it like that, until I heard my surgeon say Dew-o-dee-nal and now I say it like that..HAH!!  I guess it all depends what mood I am in.  For the Most part I just say DS! :)
