Did YOU know about Red Lobster's Policy!
Went to Red Lobster today with a friend for lunch...first time since Surgery...I pulled out my hospital WLS Restaurant card-- which gives the hospital info and requests that as a new WLS patient I be allowed to order from the children's menu OR get smaller portions.
The waitress informed me that RED LOBSTER has a policy that they DO not recognize WLS cards nor allow adults to order from the child menu and that people can only order what is on the menu in the quantity listed.
I politely told her that I belong to a nationwide group of WLS patients and we share info with each other and we don't patronize restaurants that don't acknowledge our needs.
I apologized to my friend and got up to leave...the waitress said wait we are slow today I will go ahead and let you order THIS ONE TIME from the children's menu since you are already here but don't try it again because it is the Red Lobster policy not mine.
I said thanks but I will be telling folks at OH.com about your policy...
SO I am passing on today's experience...
Guess I will cross Red Lobster off my list of places to go...Joes Crab shack here I come..

Their policy. No biggie. I honestly don't understand why people get all in an uproar over this. Having WLS doesn't suddenly make us special with glittery fairy dust and all that, you know? Just order a normal sized meal, eat your DS-sized portion and take the rest home! Lunch for tomorrow! Or just split the meal between the two of you. Or just order an appetizer. So many solutions, so little outrage!

Ask me about pregnancy after the Duodenal Switch!
They're here! My surro-sons were born July 21, 2009. Welcome to the world, Benjamin and Daniel. We love you very much!
Glittery fair dust..LMAO...lol.
COME ON!!!! I HAD THE DS SO I FART RAINBOWS AND UNICORNS COME EVERY MORNING TO FEED ME MY VITS AND PROTEIN SHAKES...LOL.
I agree with you, I think of it this way, when I was 500 lbs and went into a buffet and ate 3 times the amount of a skinny person they didn't charge me more...and if i end up throwing out some food and not taking it home if the portion is too large, I chalk it up to losing weight and being healthy.

I get a half of order of the stuffed flounder all the time at Red Lobster. I have never had a problem. There are a couple of things there that you can order that way.

I also order off the kids menu a lot. Just this past weekend I had the kids steak at Outback. It came with one side and was yummy and you know what -- I still had a piece leftover to bring home to the pekes. Most times the kids menu does not have anything on it that I want, but sometimes it does. I get the kids grand slam at Denny's. No one has ever batted an eye when I ask to see the kids menu. Of course DH is generally there ordering a meal. I never got a restaurant card but frankly I have never needed it. You might also ask about a senior menu or portion. These are generally smaller and cheaper.

The waitress was smart to back off. It's like this - you can either take my $7 for the kid's entree or you can take nothing - because I'll take my business elsewhere.
I just don't say anything about it. I have never once used my WLS meal card post op. I either just order from the kids menu (which never seems to cause any problems) or I order an appetizer for my meal. Nobody has ever batted an eye either way. Give that a try and see if it works for you. Good luck!
