Did YOU know about Red Lobster's Policy!
Leann .I was replying on the original post....and that's how I took it
.Just because I don't agree with the poster's comments doesn't make me a troll.......
I agree we shouldn't have to pay full price on food we aren't going to be able to eat but the comment was more to the way I took it of how she was going to leave even if her friend stayed....when there were other food items offered besides full meals.....
and stating about belonging to a nationwide WLS support group..and useing that to spread info..
my comments weren't anything on a personal attack at all in case it was taken that way
As for my profile that's private to me or buddies... you want to know me?.
pick up the phone and call .........what I am judged on is my replies or posts
not my profile....besides how many times can text be misunderstood here or anywhere ?
too many to count lol

You might be surprised to learn that many restaurants will go out of their way to accomodate if you ask nicely ... well sometimes!
I am one of those with the smaller stomach and longer common channel, so I don't eat a whole lot in one setting (okay, so 2 hours later, I am starving!!) Usually, DH and I split meals or I order an appetizer. But once in a while, we both crave something totally different and we take leftovers home. Sometimes we even carry a insulated cooler bag with frozen blue ice to keep leftovers cold if we are not going directly home or the restaurant is some distance from home.
Anyway, a few years ago, I met up with a great bunch of DSers in Seattle when I went up there for my niece's wedding. My family and I were staying in a hotel with a no fridge. So I nicely explained to the waitress that I had wls and would it be possible to just get a chicken breast? She wasn't sure, but said she'd check with the manager. I think it cost me $4, and I got a nice moist chicken breast smothered in cheese along with (if I remember correctly) also chopped tomatoes and bacon.
You can also request a ala carte chicken breast or chicken patty at McD's and Burger King. Those cost around $1.50 or so. Sometimes when I'm running late in the morning, I swing thru the McD's drive thru and get a side order of scrambled eggs. None of these are on the menu, but they'll sell them to you if you ask!
Even the chain restaurants seem to vary from location to location on their policy. My family loves Souplantation (a salad/soup buffet). There is no way I can eat enough to make it worth it (to me) to spend almost $10. We did not go for more than 2 years after my surgery. I ended up calling the manager and he said it was no problem and didn't need to see any proof of surgery - he'd take my word for it. My family has been wanting to go there again so I called the manager to remind him. He's moved on to another location and the new manager was downright hostile. So we didn't bother to go.

That waitress needed to learn finesse.
Instead of saying "we don't recognize it, tough luck" she should had offerred alternatives - offer to check with her manager how best they can accomadate you, etc.

I think that the point is not the fact that we might be "demanding" as much as consumer demand. This is buisness. When people were all over the Atkins diet many restuarants tailored their menus to that craze. I think it is good that restuarants know that there are people out there that are unable to consume the ammounts that they are serving. So they can have alternate choices.
Supply and demand...that is like going to the hair dresser and her/him telling you what they are going to do and you can darn well like it.
Who does it hurt that I order the child's menu?? I'm still going to pay! I am at the point where I may get there and have my few bites and not be able to eat more..and it doesnt sound good later. I cant tell how much food I have been throwing out becaue I am still settling in trying to find something that sounds good and sets well.
Would you also not ask to make sure there were no nuts or eggs if you were allergic? There is no difference and if you dont like the options you should leave if you arent happy.
I know it got on my nerves today to have the waitress keep coming over to me today when we were at lunch and she kept asking me if the soup was okay becasue i was just sipping it. (they filled the bowl not me!) I was trying to save room for my fish entree. I didnt want to have to say to her.."the soup is great I just had surgery and if I eat even a 4th of this I wont be able to fit my entree"!! I understand that she was checking though becaue it is about customer service, and customer service is helped when they know that there is another population out there that is ripe for the picking! (I didnt bother to let her know beacuse I didnt even order the soup, my partner did and they gave me a bowl also becasue they serve family style)
I looked at the Red Lobster link and they have that lighthouse menu in my area so how lame is it that she didnt even offer that?
About the appetizer thing...much of that is usually fried, breaded or otherwise high carb and not the same as bing able to choose a smaller portion off the menu at times.
Is it weight related shame that would make us not ask for what we want? you mean you never asked a restuarant to hold something or add anything on your order??

My standard line for worried servers is, "I have to pace myself, otherwise I won't make it through the whole meal," accompanied by my patented very huge grin.
That generally soothes them enough that they quit coming back and fretting at me.
Red Lobster, in particular, has some very yummy DS friendly appetizers. And at any restaurant, I routinely ask for accomodations to menu items. I just don't flash a "I had WLS" card to do it. It's part of appropriate customer service to accomodate patron requests and none of their business WHY the patron makes the request.

We're not handicapped and I don't think we are entitled to special treatment because of our surgery.
There are plenty of items on an appetizer menu if you don't want leftovers.
The food on children's menus are usually garbage, anyway.
