Did YOU know about Red Lobster's Policy!

I understand what your saying, about the 'refusal' to 'honor' the card for a smaller portion. And as many have said, it is all in the presentation from the waitstaff of the policies of the restaurant.

I eat too much to order off the children menu and as others have said, they usually don't offer anything I want. But that doesn't change the fact you wanted to use the card and was rebuffed in a very unprofessional manner. And I would have also been upset if a request I made was met with such a dismissal.

I sometimes worry about making waiters mad, too. They have my food hostage, unprotected, vulnerable for a few minutes before it arrive at my table.

Hi. I'm new here, and have not yet had my surgery, so stuff like this is interesting to me as a situation I would not have expected.
Having said that, I can speak as an ex-restaurant manager and avid gourmand, and what happened to you is not acceptable service, by any standard. Disregard all these posts about "you're not special" or "you're not entitled," etc. You ARE special, you are a paying customer. This is not about saving a few pennies, either. As a matter of fact, as some folks pointed out, this is not even a WLS issue. The fact is that they could have accomodated your needs. Had you gotten a manager involved, I'm fairly certain that he or she would not have gone on record as saying Red Lobster's corporate policy is to not accomodate a customer's needs.
I'd like to echo another post which said that it's possible that the server made that up, being angry about the low check and hence a lower tip. That's not only possible, that's very, very likely. I had to fire a server once because he yelled at me for delivering his food for him, thus making him look bad and affecting his tip. People are not rational, and you may have caught this person on a bad day.
But don't for one minute believe you're not special and should not be entitiled to accomodations.

Here's the contact information for Red Lobster to let them know how you feel.

I understand your point completely.   Not every meal makes good leftovers, and there are multiple times when it is not safe or appropriate to keep the leftovers - in your case because of the heat.  In mine, it's often because I'm on a motorcycle.

Restaurants are the ultimate "customer service" experience, and they gave you lousy customer service.   There is no need (for you) to apologize for that.   As the customer, you can ask for anything you want - chocolate on your eggs, tap dance from the waitress, or smaller portions.   It does NOT mean they *have* to supply it, but they need to be aware that there is a demand for it, and NOT supplying it might mean losing business.

I can't tell you how much food I throw away - and I *can* eat a fairly NORMAL size meal.   Even the non-ops I go out with can't finish a restaurant meal anymore  The problem is - restaurants have lost touch with what is NORMAL.

I generally have my little ice chest w/me for my food going to work.  If I'm eating out after work, I'll also throw in a sandwich bag, depending on the leftovers, most of the containers don't fit into my ice chest, but, I put my leftovers into the baggy and pop it in the chest.  On the weekend, I may just put the chest in the car so that it's available.  I split meals or order my own and take home... by the time I get home I'm hungry again.  If soup comes w/meal - I take a few bites, and ask for a container.  You can generally find good protein choices where ever you eat.  I eat out quite a bit.  I'll also sub mashed potatoes for rice.  My 2cents

I don't have one of those cards, didn't even know there was such a thing. I mean, I have a card that states the surgery and all but not one allowing me to eat saller portions and such.
Hmm, I neer order off the kids menu anyway, too many cards, since most things are breaded.

Hey!!  Where do you get one of them cards anyway? I never got one!

I have never found anything very appetizing on the kids menu anyways. Usually they just have corn dogs, chicken fingers or mac and cheese. If I am going to a seafood restaurant or any other nicer place to eat, I ain't eatin a corn dog.

Call Dr.A's office and ask for one they will mail you one.  I usually don't use it much anymore.  I used it often early out but as you know I can eat pretty hearty now so I just keep it in my purse and keep my mouth shut.  I know that early out though I couldn't eat anything not even a half of sandwich.

I was just kidding Marylin.
I have never wanted one or needed one myself.

You learn something new every day here!  I want one of those cards too, just in case yano.
Course, I still think I can eat everything and am astonished when I can't .  Since I come from the clean your plate generation, I feel guilty if I don't get the doggie bag and keep it in the fridge until it turns green and I'm sure it's unedible.,  Only then do I have justification for tossing it.  You know, all those starving children in  ?  would take it in a heartbeat.
