Wherever you are, home or in the hospital, GET BETTER PAIN MANAGEMENT. That's what pain medication is for. And talk to Dr. Gagner so he can make sure you don't have anything else going on besides plain old postop pain and gas.

It doesn't help to tell anyone in your shoes that it gets better, so I won't.  Are you taking pain meds? If you are, call your doc for something stronger and don't miss a dose!  If you had the surgery lap and you are hurting that badly, call the doctor ASAP anyway!  Pain is subjective, but that's not normal pain for a lap procedure so get help!

I hope you feel better soon!

I'm so sorry you are in a lot of pain.  I agree with the others. That much pain is NOT normal.  Please contact your doctor.  It may just be a matter of a better pain med.  Only he can make that decision.

Even though it doesn't seem so right now, it will get better.

I'm sorry you're in so much pain, get some meds, but I know how you feel, I can remember it was just 6 weeks ago. How would you like to be going back into surgery today? That's what I had to do, so I really do know and understand how you're feeling.

Here's the really great news, the pain will pass and you will lose the weight and you will feel great, it just takes a little time. Very little time when compared to the rest of your life. Just grin and bear it for a few weeks.

Get thee on the phone, and demand more and better meds! This isn't natural childbirth, there is no reason to go hippy here, get drugged out of your mind and go sleep!!!

(Disclaimer: I had home births with midwives, breastfed my kids past 2 years, and am a tree-hugging liberal - but DAMN if I am not going to get all the meds I can when I get my DS.)

If you're in that much pain you need to see your doctor immediately, or go to the ER.  You can't apply the anti-drug doula approach to this - You won't get any medals for enduring the pain.  This much pain could be the result of a serious problem, and you need to find out immediately if something is wrong.  Sounds like your emotions are on overdrive as well.
Get some good drugs, get some rest - you need time to heal both emotionally and physically.  You'll be glad you did this.  ASK FOR HELP, then take it.
Best wishes,
Lesa

IF YOU ARE IN THE HOSPITAL, ASK FOR THE HEAD NURSE!!!

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AT MT. SINAI--I WAS IN EXCRUCIATING PAIN AND HAD TO KEEP ASKING THE NURSES TO CALL DR. GAGNER!!!

After the 4th round of begging, someone finally did and he uped me to 4mg~no problem.  My pain was then controled and was never that bad again, but while it wasn't controlled, whoooweee!!!

Dr. Gagner is awesome and so is Genevieve, but you have to get to them, and the only way I did was by demanding to speak to the charge nurse!

It does get better, I'm only a few days ahead of you, I promise!!!

Keep your chin up!

Do make sure you are in constant contact with your surgeon and let him know the pain level you are in, to work out the proper pain meds. My pain level was like HELLRAISER EDITION and lasted 27 days non-stop with pain medication. I was just a slow healer and couldn't do much at all because of the pain, including sleep, get out of bed on my own or even walk. To me, it was the worst pain in my life and I had other surgeries and given birth. I was on codeine and pain management for 4 weeks. The pain will mellow out and go away. It is not a permanent thing, just a healing from the major surgery you just had. To be honest, when I had the DS, it freaking hurt like hell the recovery period. When day 28 came, it was like heaven scent. Still remember that moment the pain left me. I also want you to know that my first year post-op was a very, very rough experience for me. After my 12th month post-op, living with the DS has been beautiful every single day, including now. Just remember, this too shall pass.....
