I was not lactose intolerate prior to surgery nor am I now.  I have never been a big milk drinker however.  Some folks find that shortly after surgery diary gives them grief but many times that goes away over time.

It's just one of those things (like skin) that you don't know for sure unitl you're living it.  I get rumblegut from straight milk and some ice cream, but can eat milk products all day long.

As Val said, it is one of those things you won't know until after you have surgery and it can happen with any of the bariatric surgeries. I am 2 yrs out and have never been lactose intolerant. I was able to drink milk, right after surgery with no problem. If you do become lactose intolerant, you can drink Lactaid milk and use Lactaid pills to help you have things that are dairy or have lactose in it. I purchased Lactaid pills prior to having surgery, since I read from a number of people that have become lactose intolerant. It was a waste buying it, since I did not experience any lactose intolerance issues since having my DS.

Shani, you stupid girl.   But they do look nice.  I wish mine looked so good.  Too bad I'm stuck with the deflated milk bags, and not even a good 2 months post op.

Oh, lactose intolerance...

I was slightly lactose intolerant before surgery but could tolerate skim, 2% and even evaporated milk and now I am totally lactose intolerant, except for firm/hard cheese.  immediately post op I could tolerate yogurt and cottage cheese but not so much now.  I even made some tikka masala chicken and the sauce calls for cream/milk and it made me sick.   I now only drink or use a lactose free milk.  Iam also not able to eat or even taste anything made of pasta.  I tried some lasagne, big mistake, just like regular milk.
Today I went into the grocery store and I found myself staring at the cartons of Eggnog.  I want some so bad but I am soooo scared to try it.
Just start out very slowly trying foods and drinks.

Wait, you already had surgery? I thought you were still researching? Or did I miss a post about it?

I wasn't lactose intolerant before surgery. Right after surgery I took precaution and just chewed the lactaid pills before I had milk or half & half in my protein shakes. When the box of lactaid was gone I tried my shakes and all other dairy without the pills and I was fine. Not everyone has the intolerance.
