I have officially converted from the RNY surgery to the DS surgery

Hello All,

Well I did it and I owe each and every one of you a BIG thanks for "pushing" the DS information on us newbies.  I had never heard of the DS till someone from the DS board posted on one of my messages from the RNY board.  You are all the best!!!!!  Please notice my profile no longer displays the RNY surgery for 1/20/2009.

Unfortunately Dr. Husted in KY does not work with my insurance as of yet.  I found a doctor in Dayton, OH - - Dr. John Maguire - - and have an appointment with him on 2/6/2009 and later will go to the seminar that day as well.  I requested that the office in Ohio send me a medical records release form so that I can sign and so that they can get that to my current surgeon so that he can start sending all my labs, xrays, pre op surgery stuff to my new surgeon in OH.

Tomorrow I will call my current surgeon to let him know that I am looking into the DS and want to postpone my surgery until further research can be done.

As I told my brother on my way home from work, I have zero interest in doing the RNY after learning about the DS.  I do have a friend that is also getting the RNY revision from VBG.  After telling her and showing her all about the DS she is convinced the RNY is for her. That is her choice to make - - I just let her know of her options.  All I do know is that I am soon going to be joining you all on the DS loser bench.

Many thanks to all.

Welcome!  We're a pretty decent bunch, as long as you don't strike first!

I love my DS and I hope you do too!  From another would-be RNYer who converted to DS!

as one came "across" the DS, too, I am VERY happy that I did not make the RNY choice.  For me personally, it would have been one huge torturous mistake.

Welcome and feel free to pick brains!

I hope it all goes well for you.  Are you getting a revision?

I have read many times that Dr. Maguire will not do an RNY to DS revision.  That he prefers to revise the RNY to a more distal RNY.  I am not sure how he revises the VBG.  But do not be discouraged if you find that he will not do it.  There are other surgeons that will.

Congratulations, Michelle!
You've made things happen in short order -- watch out world, this one is serious about moving forward!!
That sucks that you can't use Husted, but that is great that plan B is coming together so quickly.  I have a feeling that after your travel epiphany this weekend, that nothing is going to stop you.

That sucks about your friend.  I've never understood the desire to punish yourself (haven't we punished ourselves enough?), but what is going to happen if your friend is one who doesn't dump?  Her choice though.  If it doesn't work for her, I doubt that her stomach will be able to handle yet another surgery to take down the pouch and create the sleeve.  Guess I can't say that I would be willing to gamble, given the states on EWL for both procedures.  To each their own!  Move forward on your plans, and don't give her choices another thought.

From what we were both told by our RNY surgeon is that they now only allow one revision.  So the choice we make this time around we are stuck with.

My friend feels that she has an unhealthy relationship with food and would rather learn "healthy" eating habits with the RNY instead of eating what the Ds'ers do.  I tried to explain in detail why DS might be something she should seriously consider but she is convinced RNY is the way to go.  Maybe for her it is but for me it isnt.  I refuse to do it.
