Can you mix protein powder with hot liquids?

I've seen people list 'protein coffee' or 'tea with protein powder' on the F&F threads. I tried mixing vanilla protein powder in my oatmeal and it turned into a curdled, chunky ,disgusting mess.    I get grossed out just remembering it. Is it a certain brand or type that you can put in hot liquids, or is 'protein coffee' an actual product that I can buy?

I add mine to my coffee.  LOVE IT!  I have a chocolate whey protein and it disolves just fine.  It actually gives it a mocha taste.  I only add about 1/2 a scoop, but I really like it.

It depends on the brand of protein.  Unjury proteins can't be mixed any hotter than 130 degrees.  Champion Nutrition proteins can go as high as 150 - 160 degrees before clumping.  I regularly mix Champion Nutrition Banana Scream protein into my already cooked oatmeal and it mixes just fine.  Other brands probably have a "clump point" too.

For protein coffee I will usually make a slurry of protein powder and a bit of water or room temp coffee and then mix that slurry with the rest of the cup of coffee.  If it needed, I will heat it up a bit more in the microwave.,

I put 4-6oz of 1/2 & 1/2 in a shaker cup followed by a scoop or so of protein powder, shake, then add hot brewed coffee on top and shake a little bit more. The mixture doesn't get hotter than 130 degrees and it comes out perfect. I only started using a shaker cup with a wire ball when we started remodeling the kitchen. I used to use an electric blender stick, but either way works.

I dont know about other proteins. But I mixed my Nectar cappuccino protein into actual coffee (Hot) in a shaker cup. One shake and it kinda ummmmm. Exploded? and sent hot coffee and curdled protein gunk everywhere. I was holding the lid shut, so it had some force behind it. lol

I used to make excuses why I cant Now I make reasons why I CAN!!

Lol sounds gross!  You should try again with warm (not hot) coffee.  It's definitely a great way to get protein in!

Ooops. I sorta forgot to tell you. Never shake ANYTHING hot. Who cleaned the ceiling? LOL

Also, Bullets. If you do hot in a bullet, it'll ooze right on out of the seal and you'll be dumping protein out of your bullet base all day.

How do I know these things?

I make a 16 oz. protein coffee every morning.  I heat up some water (not too hot), put two teaspoons of instant coffee in it, then put lots of cold creamer in that (to bring the temp down a tad), a packet of Splenda, and THEN finally put in two scoops of Champion Nutrition Vanilla protein powder.

I had to figure out the right amount of time to microwave my water through trial and error because I did have a few clumping accidents, but I think the secret is to get the water warm, NOT boiling hot.

And now I can't live without my double scoop protein coffee every morning!

I pour my coffee, then shower while it cools off. (Never have liked hot hot drinks) Then in goes the vanilla cinnamon protein powder, 2 scoops. Yummy! I just dump it in, and stir a couple of times with a spoon.

15g IDS vanilla cinnamon + 15 choco Champion PWStack.
I prefer 10 oz liquid, because it tastes good! I use a hand blender or a Moo MIxer to blend it in. Nothing with a lid or a gasket. LOL

160 degrees is all I've been able to use. Regular coffee pot, not Espresso. My INsta Hot registers 163 and it works. Some other ppl have another brand and it must be hotter since it fries the protein.

I also add ONE scoop of the BA calcium crystals, unflavored, and it doesn't change the flavor or texture.
