Foods that may cause me diarrhea (opinions/experiences) appreciated

Since diarrhea is what caused this horrible external thrombosed hemmorrhoid that then needed to be surgically removed, and still hurts, I'm trying to determine what causes me diarrhea and gas. Milk is definitely on the list, so I never drink more than a sip every once in a while. I'm writing down everything I eat, and also my bowel symptoms, to try and determine it.

-corn
-cream cheese
-rice
-tomatoes/tomatoe products (sauce, salsa, paste)
-flour tortillas
-corn tortillas
-sour cream

(Can you all tell that I love Mexican food?)

I'm also going to switch to a Calcium Citrate without magnesium, and do magnesium separately, as too much magnesium can cause diarrhea and I take 6x/cal citrate with d and mag per day.

I'm also going to be aware of sorbitol and manitol and fructose.

Anyone else have a stomach problem with items on my list?

I wish I had answers. Absolutely EVERYTHING gives me bathroom issues. And the gas and stomach rumblings are very embarrassing and uncomfortable.

Eve,

You have *really* gotta get hooked up with a gastrointerologist!!  This opium/dicyclomine combo my GI doc has me on (the one I told you about) has not only helped me in the #2 department, it has also decreased my stomach rumblings and even gas!!!!!  Going to see him has been the best thing I've done for myself....you won't regret it!  Let me know when/if you're going and I will send you the dosing and info so you can share it with your doctor.  I'm not kidding girl, these past 8 weeks have been AWESOME!!!!

xoxo,

Eve,  there is absolutely no reason to suffer with bathroom issues.  You need to be proactive and address this situation so that your health doesn't suffer.

What are your trigger foods?
If 'everything', as you stated, have you tried flagyl?  Are you taking probiotics?  Have you tried chia seeds?  Have you seen a GI specialist?

This is completely within your control.

Milk is a big one for me still to this day.  (But go figure, I can drink an entire LARGE strawberry milkshake from Steak and Shake and not fart once...don't ask me!!!)

On your list, many of those things bothered me in the first year.   If you have to give some foods up for now due to gas and dhr...you may be able to have them again someday.

In my first year post op:

Corn=gas (like really bad, motorboat farts!)
rice=gas
flour tortillas= they would give me gas AND diarrhea.  Now, nothing...they work fine since about 18 months out
corn tortillas=motorboat gas

some you didn't mention:

salads=gave me dhr if I had more than three bites for the first 18 months.  I eat the heck out of salads now without issue.
cookies, cakes, pastas= bend over at the waist, "kill me now" gas pains

I have been able to eat anything 100% whole wheat since about 3 months out.  I can eat pasta, flour and breads that are 100% whole wheat, so I didn't miss the breads and pastas much because I was still having them in moderation.  (And when you eat the whole wheat version it's a complex carb instead of a simple carb, much better for your health all around!!!)

Not to mention, the foods I've said above all have a bunch of unneccesary carbs in them anyway for when you're in your weight loss phase.  I started adding all of these foods back in once I was at goal to slow my loss, and over time they all stopped giving me any issues.

flour tortillas have caused me havoc every since my DS 7 years ago.....even the low carb ones......I make them at home and use whole wheat flour or almond flour and can eat a very small one and be ok.....white flour products just get me.  Not only gas but diarrhea with them.  And rice....I sometimes will have a small bite or 2 but I cant eat rice very well either...not even brown rice....I eat alot of Mexican foods as well and really try to just eat the insides unless they are corn tortillas then I will have 1 or sometimes 2.....hope this resolves soon for you.

tomato sauce, salsa, corn, refried beans, taco "smell" food, KFC extra crispy (my guys renames KFC "Keeps farting  cr*p"), popcorn in large quantity,  citrus fruits (especially red grapefruit, which I used to peel and eat like an orange), sometimes large quantities of pork products (sausage) because I do not have a gallbladder, any artificial sweetners with "itol" at the end.
