Can I get DS with a BMI of 45.8 ?

My surgeon follows the Medicare guidelines for WLS, which is a BMI of 35 with at least one serious co-morbidity and 40 without any co-morbidities.

My BMI was 52 when I started the WLS process and 49 the day of my surgery.  Now it is 30 and therefore no longer qualifiable for a virgin DS procedure.

Has not weighed myself since 1/2010.  Letting my clothes gauge my progress instead.

I did...now, don't take a relatively "low" BMI as license to beef up...I had serious co-morbids that made the DS ideal for me (diabetes related).

Start the process and know your stuff when you go in to meet the surgeon(s). Most will try to test your knowledge and resolve, and some may say you're not heavy enough and try to talk you into a sleeve or RNY, but you are entirely within BMI standards for a DS.
36.8BMI at my consult.
Good luck!
