Just wondering if anyone can tell me how long they were actually in surgery. I forgot to ask my doctor how long does it take to complete this procedure.

Any help will be appreciated

3.5 hours. Some take longer - all depends on the surgeon and what s/he encounters when they go in!

Mine was 5 1/2 hours or so. I was a laparoscopic DS no previous abdominal surgeries but they found some adhesions near the area where they attach the common channel.

I had open surgery. dr said because of my size it would be 4 hours but it only ended up being 3. That was a relief to my family waiting for me.

I was lap and the second most difficult one he has done (almost opened me 5 time) due to a thick abd wall muscle and I was just over 7 1/2 hrs. Also they said guys can take longer.

It depends on what the surgeon finds when he gets into your gut. Three hours is probably the minimum. You will be in the OR a lot longer than it takes to actually do the procedure, though, for anesthesia and all that jazz.

My DS was open.  I was in surgery for 2.5 hours.

Mine was an open DS.  I was on the table for 1.5 hours.  Then I was taken to recovery where I spent a little over 2 hours before being taken to a room.  My gall bladder had been removed 10 years prior-so that didn't need to be done.

Mine was open and it was a revision and it was still less than two hours.

I had a "virgin" belly and a hand assisted lap DS with removal of gall bladder and appendix at the same time.  My surgery itself lasted 2 hours and 15 minutes.  You will be away from your family longer than that for recovery, etc.  Surgery times vary a lot due to what the surgeon might encounter when they get in there.  Good luck!
