So who are "the best" DS surgeons?
I believe, without question, Dr. Pomp is one of the top five in the country. I'm also his patient so it's hard for you to think i'm not biased. I am biased, but I also know his record.
7/19/09 - DS with Dr. Alfons Pomp
7/11/12 - tummy tuck, UBL, larg lipo sculpting of torso, lipo of "buffalo hump" with Dr. Sauceda

The "best" for me may not be the "best" for you. Or the "best" for any one else for that matter. It is an art to match a skilled surgeon with a personality that you can work with. Best wishes in finding that match.

Gagner, Pomp, and Rabkin are high on the list from what I've seen on the boards and in other articles.
I am also biased to Roslin and his practice. They have one of the lowest mortality rates, are very experienced with the DS and VSG. If you take a look at his patients (many of them very active on this board) most of them do very well with weight loss, have minimal nutritional deficiencies and no bowel issues.

Well two of the best seem to be MIA these days, so when you find them, let us all know!
Really, you can't go wrong with any of the vetted surgeons on the DSFacts.com list.
Of course, there are surgeons that are not on that list who do perform the DS, and who you maybe don't want to discount just because they don't appear there, but you'll want to do some more digging.
You'll get lots of opinions from people on this thread, but I like K9's advice, because there really should be a "good match" for what your needs are. Whether that is strictly stats and you don't care about bedside manner, lap -vs- open, whether you have medical issues that need to be considered before you go under, whether you can or even want to travel, etc...
The first step is to figure out which surgery, and you have done that. The next step is to figure out the surgeon, so to do that, figure out your criteria and that will help you narrow down the search.

Highest Known Weight = 370# / 59.7 bmi @ 5'6"
Current Weight = 168# / 26.4 bmi : fluctuates 5# either way @ 5'7" / more than 90% EWL
Normal BMI (24.9) = 159#: would have to compromise my muscle mass to get here without plastics, so this is not a goal.
I my DS. Don't go into WLS without knowing ALL of your options: DSFacts.com
This also all depends on if you have insurance or no insurance. Surgery in country or out of country. What are you looking for? I used antelmo in Brazil and loved him, but most people are gona LOVE their surgeon!! Hope this helps. Give us more details to get you in the right direction!!

Oh sorry - getting ready to pick up my daughter from school so I was brief. Typing fast....
I have Aetna and am looking into the 2 doctors in network closest to me. I read here and there on this board where someone mentions a doctor and someone else says "Oh I hear he is one of the best" so I was wondering if there is some sort of general consensus on who the best are.
I need a Dr. who accepts Aetna and I can travel a bit (one I am considering is Houston in TN) but am open to researching other doctors who come highly recommended. Traveling to CA or NY is probably too far, I'm not 100% sure yet. Keeping options open.
