I a wondering if anyone else is having a problem with yeast infections since they had surgery.  Does the DS and yeast infections have some correlation ?

Nothing that I know of.  There is a direct correlation between yeast infections and antibiotics, though, which is why my doc always told me to eat plenty of yogurt when I was on them.

I had an issue with it, but just while I was on the pain meds. Once off pain meds, no issues at all. I will try the yogurt next time I have to be on antibiotics though, good tip.

I haven't personally had an issue with Y.I.s, however, maybe it's all the fluctuating post-op hormones throwing your internal balance off. I know my hormones went crazy during the time of my most rapid weight-loss. Just a thought. Hope they don't continue to give you problems...yeast infections are a pain in the you-know-what.

I have had more yeast infections (about four or five) since my DS than I've had in my entire life.    They have resolved easily though.   I have noticed one common thread - it's ALWAYS been after I've had a period of extended simple carb consumption - like usually after Christmas.    Since my DS, I am particularly sensitive to white flour and sugar from a digestive standpoint, and there must be some correlation.

For some, a high carb diet seems to promote yeast infections.

I'd look to antibiotics first...

Wow - yes, I have! I thought it was just me. Seriously, it sucks!
I tried taking a probiotic even and it made it 10x's worse.
I've been told the candida level is high in my body, but we haven't figured out a way to lower it after the DS now.

Let's chat IRL about this!

Mostly likely they had you on Antibotics after the surgery, which will kill the beneficial batercia in your body.    According to the Mayo Clinic, "There is a growing public and scientific interest in probiotics. Researchers are studying whether probiotics taken as foods or supplements can help treat or prevent illness. There is encouraging evidence that probiotics may help:

  • Treat diarrhea, especially following treatment with certain antibiotics
  • Prevent and treat vaginal yeast infections and urinary tract infections
  • Treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Reduce bladder cancer recurrence
  • Shorten the duration of intestinal infections "

This is the reason I started taking them daily.
