How long were you out?

How long were you out of work following DS surgery?  Was your surgery open or lap?

Trying to plan for the future.

Thanks, Lisa

I was lap and was out for 8 weeks. I could have gone back sooner, but I really liked being able to take the time off to fully recover and get my energy back. Some people have managed to go back after 2 weeks or so, but I know I couldn't have done it that soon.
 Best Wishes,

I was a lap ds and out two weeks. I am a manager so there isnt much lifting. But I had surgery on Wen and the next MOnday I did stop by the office just to take care of a few thing then the wife and I went to the movies. If I could have drove I would have gone back in a week.

Mine was open and I gladly took 8 weeks.  My job is physical in nature.

Mine was open and I, too, was out for 8 weeks.  My incisions were healed in only 2 weeks, but it's what went on inside that had the impact.  I was very listless for the first 4 weeks and didn't really start feeling more like myself untila around 6 weeks out.

BMI of 50, lap, work office job, planned 4 weeks, took the whole 4 weeks, felt great at 2 weeks and it got better everyday, could of went back sooner I suppose...Sigh....  I was nervous going back not knowing my bathroom schedule.  Also my brain was a little foggy.
I only had to "go" at work twice in in the last 6+weeks.
At about 5 weeks my bathroom habits became known.  in the a.m. once or twice then MAYBE an evening.  Just like pre surgery almost. Except now I dont think I go as often.  I know you didn't ask about the throne part, LOL>  Good luck!

Mine was lap...and I was out almost 2 weeks(1 day shy)...and I was not ready to go back...I was really tired and it was hard to focus on getting in my fluids etc. while I was working....

Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy to be normal...People concern themselves with being "normal" rather than natural.....

Mine was lap and I have 5 weeks off. I'm actually halfway through my leave now.

I'm glad for the time because right now, just drinking, eating, and taking my vitamins is a full-time round-the-clock job. I feel pretty good, but I'm also tired, and I think full days would exhaust me at this point.

Everyone's different, though!

I'm having mine lap next week, and they told me to plan on about 6 weeks off.  They prepared me that even if I'm feeling better, keeping up with the fuids/meds and new way of eating early out takes a lot of effort.  Sounds like what Jenna is saying about her recovery.  I travel on busines and they said I might not want to do that for about 8 weeks, with the biggest risk to watch out for not being able to drink regularly and becoming dehyrdrated.
