I'm searching for a doc to do DS. I'm self-pay. I live in Florida. Experience (skill) and demeanor are important. Any recommendations on doctors, either for or against, and why, are appreciated. LisaKAREN W.
I LOVE MY DS!!!!!
STRIVE TO BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE AND DO THE BEST THAT YOU CAN.
Check out www.dsfacts.com and www.duodenalswitch.com for all the accurate information on the great DS, and find surgeons in your area or around the country or out of the country.
I couldn't have done without all the great peeps on this board.

I assume that you're asking KRWaters about Dr. Keshishian (she has me blocked). His reputation is stellar and he is one of the go-to guys for tricky cases and revisions. If you're highly respected for revisions, then you as a patient know that that surgeon is one of the top tier of surgeons for the DS, period.

Ask me about pregnancy after the Duodenal Switch!
They're here! My surro-sons were born July 21, 2009. Welcome to the world, Benjamin and Daniel. We love you very much!
they are all outstanding doctors, but out of country excludes some of the routine stuff that insurance will cover. Dr Antone in antone in Omaha has done over 6000, ds has his own staff in the hospital.
I had 6k worth of lab work prior to surgery pending surger only to be denied, insurance paid the whole tab, ordered by the ds surgeon. now they will do it again, and pay again.

She can still do those pre-op tests here, regardless of where she has her surgery.
And the required pre-op testing varies from surgeon to surgeon, even in the US. I did not have to complete a sleep study, gastro work up (not even sure what that is), or anything other than a physical with my PCP, some basic labs, and an EKG.

Dr Stewart in Texas is about 22,750 for a lap, virgin DS. He is great, from what I've experienced so far. He's been doing the DS for about 3 years? Maybe a bit longer. I was very impressed with his knowledge and demeanor. Since he does all 4 surgeries, there was no hard sell pressure, just gave him the reasons I wanted the DS over anything else.
My surgery is in 11 days, so you can pick my brain about it afterwards, if you haven't decided by then.
Best of luck
