What to do with 2 diff surgery dates RNY or DS?

My insurance will cover the RNY but I will have to pay for the DS.  I will also have to travel a considerable distance to have the DS, as opposed to staying home for the RNY.  If I can find a top-notch surgeon for the DS that is the way I think I'm going.  I like the long-term quality-of-life.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Lisa, I know how tough it can be when the options and funds are limited, and I agree with the long-term quality of life you mentioned! Thanks for the well wishes & hope it all works out the way you want also.

YOU CANCEL THE RNY, AND CHECK OUT DOING A SPACE A HOP, ,i SUSPECT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT GOING TO MADIGAN,  check out peper.com  on the how too for that, you will be priority for the medical,
PM me and we can get into more detail if you like,  on both details.   in and out of the mtf for the DS, and the hop. and tri care

madigan is at ft Lewis, /mchord afb, which is the gateway base for the Pacific northwest and Asia, so plenty of air traffic from the east coast and Europe, opportunity for space a.

looked at your profile, your at dix, no problem,  2or 3 flts a day to mc chord a day, whlole family free

because its medical / you can reserve tlf housing for 50 bucks a day,  do it now.   to make sure of availability,  and allow a few extra days for travel, space a is not a scheduled airline,
You can do this with out your husband because he is deployed but you need certification letter.

Walter, Yes, I had checked on the hop idea, but I have 3 children, and my husband is PCSing to Germany before his deployment, so since his duty station is Oconus (overseas) from what I understand family members can't fly/space A within the US, only to or from overseas to/from the States. Tricare will not pay for the DS even on appeal. The military facility is Madigan - we were stationed there before here in NJ.
Thanks for your input & help, hopefully we can figure it all out.

This is the rest of your life you're talking about.  What's more important...the convenience of the first two weeks or the convenience of the next 10 + years?

Yes Valerie, that is why i was really hoping the Ds was covered by my insurance here. But now it will just be figuring out if I can get the family to the West Coast & work out the details.
Your right, thank you for your reply & thoughts. :)

As eeryone else has said here look at what your life will be like after the procedure.  Can you live the life that the RNY offers?  I knew I could not.  To me it was a no brainer....I needed the DS.  You will get all of the logistics worked out.  This is a life altering decision and one that I would definetly be looking at research and quality of life after the procedure.

Good Luck to you.

If you can work it out, and I sure hope you can, pick the DS hands down! You will love it. I had the RnY first 4 years ago and have regretted it ever since. Wish I had known about the DS. Too many people regain and cannot eat well with the RnY. The DS is the way to go. Avoid the chance of having to do a revision like I did and so many others, do the DS the first go-round. Good luck; I wish you well.
