What to do with 2 diff surgery dates RNY or DS?
our children are 17, 12, & 4. I am trying to work it out for my mom to possibly have their RV/motorhome available & for her to help our oldest with the kids during my stay. One blessing is that the surgeon said he will do the DS laproscopically, so hoping the hospital stay may be shorter than a week? Yes, I am in NJ & the DS surgery is in WA.
Thank you for your help & replys.

air fare from Philly to seatac can be cheap, and if you work with the school with the holiday, in there it should work out. I asked for help on this at pepperd, see what comes back, the medical part has exceptions to the rules. being retired I payed no attention to them previously. I have a open ticket except between may 1st and Sept 10 then its no go. who are you seeing dr martin.
my sister was a recovery nurse there b4 she retired

Walter, yes there are some great specials on airfare from Philly to Seattle right now, but some blackout dates over the holidays. And still 4 tickets plus poss rooms & food for at least a week. My parents live about 8-9 hr drive in eastern oregon - so that will be a big drive - they would want me to fly back out of Boise, ID which would make the tickets cost more.
It is great that the surgeon (yes, Dr. Martin) called me back with the pre-op date of 14 Dec & surgery date 18 Dec. (close to the holidays) But that is still about an extra week & a half extra out of school (our daughter is a senior & trying for top honors & honors college program options)
Does your sister know of Dr. Martin's history? I guess he has only done about 15-20 DS procedures, but I feel comfortable with his history of 50 sleeve gastrectomies and
several hundred gastric bypasses.
What do you mean about medical part exception to rules - for hop/space A flights?

About the local surgeon. My local docs work with my surgeon to get the care that I need. I have never needed to see another bariatric surgeon. So I would not worry about the local doc doing your follow-up. I traveled from Florida to Nebraska for surgery. Lots of folks travel for surgery. If need be talk to the DS surgeon about rescheduling to give you more time to make arrangements. Also talk to Tricare if you have Tricare Prime under certain conditions they do pay travel expenses.

Your older daughter sounds, as a top honors student, like a responsible young lady. Could she possibly stay with a friend while you are in the PNW? That would lighten your load a bit in regard to the kid issue. I really hope you can make this work. You don't HAVE to have a support group. OH has always been my support group. My surgeon's group is almost two hours away and I've never once been to one of their meetings.

Yes Julie, She is responsible but has an after school job that I drive her to because of the strong driving laws here in NJ. So we are still working out the details there too. Plus it has been emotional with her dad leaving for Germany training before he deploys for a year to Iraq.
