I self-paid in Mexico for DS when I could've had an RNY paid locally for by insurance.

So, my answer should be obvious.  This is how your guts and quality of life will be forever.

Thanks Leann, I appreciate your in put & agree that the long term is best with the DS. Now just to figure out the details. Thanks for your reply.

I have kids and little to no child care for them so I know that needing someone to watch your kids is not a matter of convenience - it's a pretty important detail!

Do you have family or friends who can watch your kids? I would volunteer but I doubt you live close to me.

As for the other stuff - travel is a pain but you can do it if you really want the DS! Stay positive and focus on what you can do rather than what is a pain.

Good luck!

Mandy, I agree with it being an important detail I am trying to figure out, and trying not to inconvenience family during the holidays - hopefully I'll have the support I need during this decision & process. And the finances to get there. Yes, I have family in WA & OR. So looking into options.
Thanks for your wishes and reply

I hope you can figure out a way to get your DS.  You have lots of reasons already listed why this is a better choice.  Where in the PNW are you going to be?

haha thin4me, yes military lingo is another language. And I don't know how we'll work it out, that is the only reason I didn't cancel the RNY date yet - but mostly because I will need to plug into the support group & doctor here in NJ, for followup after surgery.

This is my only support group. My surgeon is 2 hours away.  I have not needed him except to do the switch.  Now I am knocking on wood.  Talk to others who had surgury in different countries to see how they coordinate follow up care. I contiplated RNY because I had my pick between 2 bariatric teams close to where I live.  I am all about convienience, however my gut told me to get outside the comfort zone and do what is right.  I know RNY's they are amazed that I have not thrown up once, have not felt sick with any food. I could go on and on.
