I just want to add that I really understand it can be difficult to put ourselves first. Frankly, it sounds like you are putting everyone else's needs ahead of your own in this situation. This is the one time when you really have to put yourself first.

Your kids, emotional as they are with their father leaving, will be okay. You are clearly a great mom. Let them understand that you are doing this so you can have a longer, happier, healthier life with them.

I'm speaking as a daughter with a seriously disabled, morbidly obese mom, and a MIL who just passed away after years of health problems caused by her obesity and diabetes. I would have done anything in my childhood to have my mom healthier and around for longer. My husband feels the same way about his mother.

Please, do this for yourself and your family. They will be proud of you, and in the long run, it will benefit them so much more then a couple of weeks now.

Take care,

Jenna

you can do it this way too, perhaps.
Just wondering if she could coordinate with her Military Treatment Facility at either Ft Dix or McGuire AFB to get entered into the Medivac System that goes between Andrew, Scott, McChord and Travis. Other than getting down to Andrews, it should smooth out the whole procedure, including getting a return flight back to the East coast. If she enters the aero medical evacuation system as an ambilatory patient, she would not be flying space-a.

This might be a great solution. It just requires you ask the right questions to the right people, and getting the "right answer".
