OT My Mom

This is difficult to write.  My Mother passed away Wednesday night.  She had broken her hip on the 7th, had surgery on the 8th.  The next two or three days went as expected with her getting up from the bed, taking a few steps, and sitting in a chair for 45 min.  She had a stroke on the 12th.  Lost much of her speech and some mobility.

She had hip replacement before and knew what was in her immediate future as far as rehab and the pain that goes with it.  She was 86 and had a number of other medical problems.  I think she decided to let go of this life and her loved ones here.

She passed at home (she lived with my husband and me) with her children, grandchildren, and even some of the great-grands around.  She was the best Mother anyone could ever have.  She had four children, twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren. Her funeral is today.  It will be a celebration of her life.

My surgery is a week from Monday and I will be there bright and early for it.  Momma was my #1 cheerleader for WLS and she would want me to keep my surgery date.  I feel calm about this decision.  I have the support of all my family and will have lots of help after surgery.

Don't know exactly why I posted this except I wanted you to know a little about her and about me, too, I guess.

Aw Nancy  I am so sorry about your mama, but I'm am glad that she had all her family around her in her last days! It is never easy to lose someone so close. I want to wish you the best with your surgery and it makes me so happy that your ma was your wls cheerleader, so when you are having your down moments you can remember your mom cheering you on! I wish you and your family the best!

Wow. I am so sorry for your loss. But what a blessing to have had heer support during your process to get to your surgery date. My prayers are with you and your family as you go through this time of intense sorrow and grief. May you find small and regular ways to be good to yourself and find peace in your path to health and wellness.

Nancy, thank you.

My daughter-in-law came in from TN for the funeral and is able to stay as my son is overseas and DH will be (helping?), too.  He is from the old school and had to learn to do laundry five years ago when I had a broken leg.  He's still proud of that and his cooking skills.

I feel for you and your family. the loss of a loved one or a parent is one of the hardest thing to deal with. I will be thinking of you and your family. good luck with your surgery and god for you to be continuing on such a big journey. now you will have another angel watching overyou and the doctors shoulder. she will always be with you. i can still feel my dad with me. I never believed people when they told me that but now i can. good luck to you.

"Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it.  Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before."  ~Jacob A. Riis
