Ok, I am not one who likes to read directions I usally like to figure things out on my own. (not always a good thing, I know)
Because of this I made a big mistake with my c-pap machine. I know a lot of you have or had them so I thought I would post here.
The person who came out to bring me my machine failed to mention that I should use distilled water in the  humidifier chamber. I have just been using tap water. I have mineral deposits in there now. I've tried white vinegar but it's not helping. I'm worried to use any type of chemicals, although I have been tempted to use CLR and just rinse well. Any suggestions?

How long have you had it?  I wonder if it's covered under a warranty.  If it's a lease to own you may be able to return it.

Dana,

I used tap water in my cpap machine humidifier as well.  I used to just used liquid hand soap and a hand brush to clean it out, and then flush with some hydrogen peroxide, and rinse...  That was plenty sufficient.  Don't worrt about the mineral deposits too much though.  With the DS, chances are, it won't be long before you won't need the cpap machine any longer.  :-)

you just need new canisters,  the humidifier is post machine, or on the positive side,  I have gone thru 5 machine in the 16 years Ive been on c pap, I get a new one every 3 years according to protocol, and a new mask every 3 months.   some vinegar will do the trick,  if you have a water softener that should do it, if not check out your water softener its not working.   a simple water pitcher such as Britta or the like will also do the trick,  don't need bottle water,  don't buy mineral or purified drinking, enhanced flavored filtered water,  they all have the minerals

If you have apnea ,, don't stop until you have a sleep study and they tell you that you can,  apnea gave me heart failure, don't mess with it.

I would not put something like CLR in the humidifier unless specifically told to do so.   With most of the newer machines you can purchase a new chamber and as a matter of fact, your insurance may even cover the replacement.

THE canisters will develope holes most likely,  i go through about 4  year,  insurance does cover mine,  because the heater is 12vdc, the heater plate is stainless and the base of the chamber is aluminum so the two metals act like a battery and disolve the aluminum,  planned replacement.

Chemicals can cause lung damage.  Get a new water chamber.  Lisa

There may be a "service number" sticker on your machine, from the medical supply place that provided it. I'd suggest giving them a call and seeing what you need to do. They might replace it for free or for a minimal charge.
