That' s it too. Why do I have to have this on top of everything else! I am having the worst time sleeping on my back. I am a stomach sleeper and I am constantly getting air blowing in my eyes. I tried the nose one at sleep studu and the mask over the nose. They felt I did better with the mask over the nose but, like I said, I hate it. I will keep trying though.
If it will make me feel more rested than it will be worth it.

I hear you.  I learned to love my CPAP quite quickly, though.

First, you may need a full-face mask, that covers your mouth and nose.  For me, that was the most comfortable option, since I'm a mouth breather at night.

Second, the humidifier was heaven-sent.  I actually miss that.

Third, I, too, am a stomach-sleeper.  I found that I could still sleep on my stomach with my cpap.  I put a pillow on the edge of the bed, under my stomach/side lengthwise so that I was a little propped up, and that took the pressure off my face mask.  I also slept with an arm under my pillow, so that took even more pressure off my face mask.  I still find it difficult to fall asleep if I'm not on my stomach.

Fourth, develop your sense of humor.  I looked at my hubby the first night I wore the damn thing and told him "Luke, I am your father!"  We busted up, and that was the end of any self-consciousness.  You only wear it when you're ready to sleep.  I understand feeling stripped of normalcy and being upset by it - it only reinforces the severe toll that obesity can take on us, and the need to have the surgery and get out of obesity.  It sucks that any of us needed surgery to begin with.  It's wonderful and miraculous that it was an option for us, though.

You may not need the CPAP forever.  Use it while you do, though.  Put your health first.  You can be as vain as you please once you're healthy.  Lord knows, I'm vain enough for 5 women now, and as healthy as a horse.  You will be too.  Just take these first steps to get you there.

Cute story Bronwen.   Of course, you are so lovely, how could the DH not love you with or without a mask.

Peace,

William

I trid it again last nite. I cannot feel the moisture though. Wondering if something is wrong with mine. I am an open mouth sleeper too.I put in a call this am to see if I can try the full face mask.
The sense of humor thing? I am trying. Usually I am very witty and have no problem laughing at myself. I just can't figure out what it is lately? Stress maybe and I want my DS yesterday. I started out on this journey thinking the only options I had were RNY and Lapband. I was scheduled for RNY this month. Now I have an appiontment to see Dr. Inman in January. I did do phone consults with 2 other DS surgeons but I chose her as you meet with her in person prior to surgery. The other 2 , I would not meet till day of surgery.(made me knida nervous.) She is a 10-12 hour drive for me but, no matter. I feel I made the right choice.
I am sooooo tired of being obese and not living a normal life. So tired of not wanting to go anywhere or do anything cause I don't want people to look at me. Tired of the joint pain, acid reflux, high cholesterol and blood pressure. Seems like everytime I see my PCP I need another med.! AUGH!!

I can't wait to be vain enough for 5 or more women!! Thanks for the advice. I will use it.

Try a chin strap with the nasal mask before investing in a full face mask.

read up on sleep apenea,  you will learn how it can be caused by weight, obstructive, and that will over time become central,  which is the body, or brain will learn to like being ox deprived and stop breathing at a lower oxygen saturation point,  if you don't use you cpap, and you have surgery you might not wake up.  cpap is very very important,    after you lose weight,   you have loose skin all over, well you will have it inside you throat.   see your throat doctor ,, like tonsils he can to a lift for that ,,,no biggie.

don't use cpap, got apnea,   get  AFIB,  I DID,   HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE ,, I DID,  TAKE CUMIDIN FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE AND GET CONGESTED HEART FAILURE IN 10 YEARS AND DIE, AND WEAR A PACE MAKER,   NAH   I DIDN'T LIKE THAT OPTION,
i WENT TO NYC AND GOT SURGERY TO CURE  or put the a fib in remission.

don't mess with apnea, and use your cpap every time you close your eyes.  your life depends on it.
