May I humbly ask for your help once again?

So!

I'm pregnant and with morning sickness pretty much all day.  I'm dealing with it, but it's tough and some things are darn near impossible for me to do.

There's this B complex pill I take (from Costco) that's pretty dang important right now.  It's got a bunch of folate in it (developing babies need folate!) which is awesome but for some reason OH LORD it tastes horrible.  And it starts dissolving as soon as it touches my tongue.

So the nausea I have all day just really won't stand this horrible little pill in my mouth and automatically I start gagging and almost throw up.

I told my nurse practitioner about the trouble I'm having and she said to stop taking it till the morning sickness goes away.  But...I really would like to try some way to make putting it in my mouth bearable before I just give up on so much folate, you know?

So...any tips for me?  How do you swallow horrible, bitter pills that make you gag?

UGH I'M EVEN HAVING TROUBLE TAKING MY CALCIUM!

Congrats again!

Get a pill grinder/crusher, and crush your pill. Fill gelatin caps with the powder (it may take two caps to contain it all). Much easier swallowing and no insta-melting on your tongue. I had to do this with my calcium and multi for 4-6 weeks post surgery. Worked SO well.

Hope the nausea goes away soon.

I am not pregnant and am having similar issues with my multi/calcium/horsepills.

Again... I am the milk queen... so I get a mouthfull of milk, put the pill between my lips and swallow in one big gulp.  It is the only way I can get them down.

Is your B complex one of the sublinguals?  I accidently ordered those the last time from vitalady and the taste is just foul!  The way I got it down was by taking it with decaf tea.  I have a huge mug of decaf tea each day and the taste seems to really cut the yuck of the pills for me.

When I was pregnant I found that the nausea/gag reflex was much worse when my stomach was empty.  If I ate something light and small about 30 minutes before I brushed my teeth it worked better. (brushing my teeth left me dry heaving into the sink each day, it's a wonder my teeth didn't fall out I could only brush about one side per day).

I really support your trying to keep taking your vitamins.  I don't think your NP completely gets the difference between a normal pregnancy and a DS one.  I would try your absolute best to get especially your folate in every day.  Maybe you could just buy the folate and take that for when you can't get the whole B complex in.

Could you cru**** and mix it with a little yogurt to mask the taste?  Lisa

I was sick 7 out of the 9 months with both my boys and I hope nobody else has to be that way. They took the med I was taking off the market between the 2 pregnancies so I was really stuck on the second one.  I think they gave my a med people take for car sickness instead.

There is a great little folic acid sublingual that VitaLady carries (1,200mcg) Superior Source brand. I take it every day and I don't taste it at all. The bitter taste in the B-complex tablet might be the B1. That stuff is awful!  I agree that a capsule rather than a tablet would be easier.

One thing that my Aunt did was to take the pill and put it in a spoonful of applesauce and take it that way.  It masks the flavor of the pills.  Of course she was a normie.  But if you use unsweetened applesauce and only a spoonful.  I don't think it should do much harm.

I second Major Mom's folic acid only suggestion...I took these (well, similar) while pregnant w/ my twins--I simply couldn't get down prenatals in the beginning so they gave me these little tiny folic acid pills and that was ok (and taking them at night!).

Good luck, morning sickness isn't any fun, but it typically does go away by 12-13 weeks.  :)

Strong taste in your mouth first (crystal light, lemonade, soda, whatever), tilt your head back and let the fluid flow to the back of your throat, drop the pill into the liquid, swallow it all immediately.

Tilt your head back and throw that pill as far back in your mouth as you can, then drink something strong flavored right after.

And, girl, get yourself some fresh ginger! Steep a little piece of it (skin removed) in some ho****er and drink up. It really helps early out with the morning sickness. I like ginger, so I could just chew on a little piece and that helped me, too.
