Welcome!! You have come to the right place, for sure! This board is made of wonderful peeps who are very knowledgeable and very caring!!
I know that 6 months of supervised diets sounds like it will take forever, but time will go by quickly!! I had to do it too, it was just another hoop to jump through. Annoying but to get insurance approval, necessary. My advice to you - get a hard copy of exactly that your insurance requirements for approval are - don't take any person's word for it. I would also get a hard copy of everything - each visit to the pcp for the supervised diet, lab work, psych eval, etc. That way when you ready to submit to insurance if the surgeon's office is missing anything, you already have a copy of it in your hands. Start not gathering up your last 3-5 years of medical records (whatever your insurance requires for approval. I had to have a 5 year diagnosis of obesity).
Another great resource for info on the DS is www.dsfacts.com
And Lori Black has a TON of great stuff for pre-ops and newbies on her profile - here is the link - www.obesityhelp.com/member/lorindablack/
Hope these help! Good luck and welcome again!
