 Lori,
Very good information.  Hopefully, people struggling with carbs will watch and have a new perspective.  BTW, looking good, as usual!

Love the interruption from your daughter! Your message is great too. You're right, there's plenty of time for carbs once the weight is off. This is different from Atkins, which offers no light at the end of the low-carb tunnel. I did Atkins years ago, and I find DS eating soooo much easier! The DS is more forgiving, but you can't flagrantly disregard the rules for that initial loss period. I'm having fun finding low carb versions of things that make getting my proteins in easier (like the Joseph's brand tortillas). And just so I don't feel deprived, the Carb Smart ice cream bars are a nice occasional treat. Really, there are alternatives to simple carbs that don't feel like dieting at all. It doesn't even take THAT much effort, just awareness! Like really, is it THAT hard to put sugar free jelly in the cart with your full fat cheese? Not meaning to offend anyone, I'm only speaking for myself and from my limited experience thus far.

Lori, I think your vlog is right on, I commented on it...You can always do a part 2 to finish your thoughts on this subject. I'm interested to hear more. I'm not sure how to edit the videos either.

Lori,

Excellent video!!  When I was researching here back in 2004-2005, everyone told me I would have to low carb until I lost the weight.  I don't know when people started straying from this but, like you, I see it more and more.  I hope that none of us are putting the idea out there that you don't have to "diet" to lose the weight.

Even with low carb, I was able to eat so normally compared to pre-op that I never really felt like I was on a diet.

I know of maybe 3 or 4 people that did not lose even with low carb, but the majority will get the weight off and "low carbing" is well worth the effort!

Again, you are so right and I have told several people that the DS is not a "magic wand" but it IS the closest thing to magic.

Thanks,
Michele

Great video.  I totally forgot about the counting thing when my kids were little...lol.  I did the same thing, don't listen, "one... ".

This is a great reminder of why to low carb.  Why risk your window?  Actually, I barely have room for my fluids and protein, and the only carbs that I've had are incidental ones in my meals and shakes.  I had ONE peanut butter cookie at the Christmas bake-off thing at work.  It didn't really bother me, but I couldn't eat my protein later that day cuz I was still so stuffed.  So aside from not losing weight, why waste the real-estate when you need the room for your protein?

Thanks again for this public service announcement :)

Brava Lori !!!!

Very well said and oh so necessary.  I can still remember when you were a newbie and how dedicated you were to staying lo carb.  We had some wonderful conversations.  I too am alarmed by the number of posts on the boards about "eating whatever you want" and then questioning why they're not losing.  Major kudos to you for paying it forward in a really big way.

Warmest hugs,
Maureen Ganz

So sorry Lori. I apparently missed the entire point of your video blog. Too busy ogling at your hotness . Yeah I know. Simple minded typical male. Seriously though, you made great points that everyone needs to read and comprehend. Awesome blog darling.

Lori, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!      I think this is just what many of US need...its a much more personal view when you can not only see the person but here and know that this is coming from a real person with real expectations and goals!  For many of US the same goals!  I completely agree with you, coming from a life of 387 pounds and 5 feet 5 inches tall, absolutely do what it takes to get that weight down to a healthy life style then live!  Eat to live...dont live to eat...

Oh...one more thing....if thats the "*****y" you, well sweetie....your awfully beautiful and sweet while being such a *****!  lol

Your point came through loud and clear.  You've got a 1 1/2-2 year window that you've got to low carb it to get the weight off.  Suck it up and deal with.  You can play with carbs later.

Thanks Lori!!!
