New YouTube blog....Why I think eating low carb after the DS is so important...link fixed

Thanks for the vlog, Lori.

I think the problem for many (not all) people is that their doctors and nutritionists are telling them to eat carbs as part of their diet.  I know my nut did.  She even went so far as to say she was not concerned with my carb intake at 6 months out.  Total rubbish!

Hi Lori,

I don't think you need to be apologetic or worried in the least about offending anyone.  Your message is just the truth as you see it and it is up to the viewer to take it or leave it.

I look forward to your next vlog.

Becky (who believes whole heartedly that low low carbing during the weight loss window is my responsibility...and it has NOT been hard to do.)

Thanks !!  After my crazy busy weekend I was down to 186 this morning.  Getting close to that 10 lb from goal mark.

You are not responsible for other's reactions.  Therefore, if someone is offended, it is more about them than you.  Everyone has the right to exercise choice.  Choose to watch Lori and get offended?  Your choice.  Choose to eat more carbs than recommended by the DS vets, NUTS or Doctors?  Your choice.  (Please note I deliberately gave the DS vets top billing!)

I personally think some people take license where none is intended.  Many vets post here that they eat whatever they want.  OK.  What they don't always mention is that what they want post-op is not what they wanted pre-op.  If anyone is fool enough to think that anything one wants is high carb without the consequences of re-gain or the halting of weight loss, that is their problem.  My weight loss has slowed.  I know why.  I have increased my carbs before I got to goal.  My decision, My choice. My results.  I am not bragging; not complaining.  Just stating facts and taking full responsibility for my choices.

Lori, your posts and profile are a both a joy and font of good information to read.  I've learned so much from you as well as others who have gone ahead of me.  The generosity of the people on this forum is overwhelming at times.  If you'll now excuse me, I have some pantry purging to do.   I am now choosing to get rid of carbs I've brought into the house before their time.

Lori:

GREAT message.  My surgeon never really mentioned carbs to me when I was a new post-op.  He at first said to eat whatever I could keep down ... then no real follow-up until I stopped losing at 5-6 months out.  I had added carbs back in, but not many.  I basically stalled for a long time and after my "window" passed -- I pretty much gave up and ate what I wanted (hence when my weight gain began).  Do I blame the surgery?  NO WAY.    I know it was my own fault and I'm kicking myself for it.  But that won't change anything.  So -- I made the decision last week to get back to low-carbing no matter how difficult I found that to be.  I'm no longer in my "window", but I feel I still can lose -- just probably not as easily.

I think it is very important for newbies to know that they MUST low carb to be as successful as possible.

You weren't offensive at all in your video.  You did tell people not to come to the OH boards and complain if they are not doing what they should be doing ... and perhaps instead of telling them not to come, we could ask them how can we help?  What suggestions can we make?  Are there ways to make low-carbing easier?  I love that you mentioned your profile and the recipes and such you have on there.  That is something I will look at.  :)

You do look beautiful!  Keep up the video blogging!

Debbie ~
