Kidney Tumor

Help!  This morning, I found out that I have a kidney tumor that has a 90% chance of being malignant. I am only 5 weeks out from my DS, and had some complications after so the surgeon is trying to figure out when it would be safe for me to have the tumor removed.  They think they'll do the surgery in the next 3-4 weeks.  I'm still struggling (less than before) with food.  I'd like to be in good nutritional shape for this next surgery.  For those of you who have found out you have cancer after your DS, did you do anything different nutritionally to prepare for/tolerate treatments?

By the way, if it hadn't been for the DS, this tumor would probably have grown a lot longer undetected, so I'm relatively lucky.

Also, I could use your prayers/swinging critters, etc.

no advice hon - just prayers for you ! I am a colon cancer survivor but that was before the DS. Just wait and see what happens before you worry about treatments. Hugs and prayers all for you !

Congratulations on being a survivor! I plan to be one as well. And, for now, I'll live in the moment. Thank you for your prayers!

Well, if it is cancerous, know that Steven Spielberg had kidney cancer a long time ago, and as far as I know, he is doing great.  You never even hear anything about it!  So, I am guessing it is very treatable!  Prayers being sent up for you!  Did they find something in your bloodwork?  How did they find it?  Keep us all posted.  I am sure you will do great.  I am sorry you have to deal with this...

I didn't know that about Spielberg!  That is cheering news.

They found the tumor incidentally on a CT scan they did to investigate some complications I had after my DS.

Thanks for your good wishes. I need them.

Sending up prayers and lizards, Lenore. Maybe get an email to VitaLady and ask if she's had any experience helping others with nutrition and vitamins going through the same as you are. Otherwise, definitely working with your surgeon on it and asking here is a good thing.

((hugs))

Lenore,
I can't help you with any nutritional advice but I can offer two things: prayers and encouragement.

1. You are definitely in my prayers.  Also, think good thoughts... I believe that attitude goes a long way in situations like this.
2.  My niece was diagnosed with cancer the week before her 1st birthday ... also a kidney tumor.  Just to let you know, she will be 12 in March and couldn't be healthier.  They did remove her kidney and she went through many months of chemo but she's totally great now.

Good luck to you and please let us know how you're doing.

It's good to hear about survivors, LInda.  Thanks.  I'm glad your niece has done well.  I'm trying to focus on how lucky I am the tumor was discovered, and the incredible outpouring of love and support from family and friends, including my new friends on this forum!
