I'm so sorry! Let's hope it's benign, but if it is malignant, perhaps your surgeon could place a feeding tube into the small intestine at the same time as your kidney surgery. That way, you could supplement whatever your stomach could manage to make sure you get enough protein and other nutrients. If the kidney surgeon can't do it, a general surgeon could help out (I'm sure your DS surgeon would know how).

That's a very good thought, Larra. I actually still have my j-tube, through which I received feedings for a couple of weeks.  I've been wondering if my surgeon will want to restart them in advance of the kidney surgery.  Thank you!

If you already (still) have a J-tube, so much the better! Ask your surgeon if he wants to check any labs, see how your nutrition is doing, and maybe provide extra to have you in the best possible shape for any further surgery.

I can only second what most everyone has said so far.  I, too, had a very close friend who heard exactly what you heard.  (She was NOT, however, just recovering from another surgery at the time.)  She alternately worried and tried to talk herself out of worrying.  In the end, hers was in the 10% and was benign.  So I wish the same for you - try to stay positive and remember that you have so many people sending prayers and good wishes your way.  I'll be saying prayers for you and sending my doxies skyward for you.  Keep us posted.

I'm so glad for your friend and hope I share her good fortune!  Thank you for your prayers and your doxies (whatever they are!)

Oh, sorry!  Doxies is short for dachshunds!  AKA Wiener Dogs!
