hi all - has anyone heard of this?  on monday i am having the ivc filter removed and the surgeons office told me to stop my bariatric advantage vitamin until after the procedure.  asked my wl surgeon's office, and they agreed.  said that high levels of e can cause clotting problems.
anyone have experience with this?
thanks so much for your thoughts and responses.

p.s. i am more scared having this done than i was for the ds.  dunno why.  just scared.

Ask lots of questions until you are comfortable.  A few days without your vitamins won't hurt in the grand scheme of things.  Tell them you are more scared of this than your DS.  They will be able to put you at ease, or at least give you some Versed (sp) or something to relax you.

Vit E can have an anticoagulant effect (blood thinner).

Two weeks prior to my DS surgery, my doc wanted me off vitamin E supplements because of potential bleeding troubles.

Don't be scared, you'll do just fine.

Before I had my plastic surgery I was told that I could not have high amounts of vit. E.  My surgeon gave me some pre-surgery vitamins that did not contain E in them and asked me to stop taking my BA vits.  They were over 100 dollars for a months supply so for only a few days I don't think I would recommend them.

If you're on fish oil, you want to stop that, too.  It does the same thing in that it can create clotting problems.

It's really normal for them to tell you to stop because of the vitamin E.

Hubby also had DS.

He is going in for hernia surgery. He was told to stop taking vit E (stop 2 weeks before surgery) but to increase vitamin C.  It didn't mention to stop any other vitamins.

Good luck and I hope you get responses that will put your fears to rest.

Before my gall bladder operation a few months ago, I was advised to stop taking my multivitamins one week prior to surgery due to bleeding and clotting issues.  However, I could still take my Vitamin D and calcium supplements up to the day of surgery.

My multivitamin regime resumed once I got home from the hospital the day after my surgery.
