So tired of 6 month required diet... (don't have to read I am whinning)
I am into week 11 of my required 6 month med supervised diet, and this **** is for the birds! I have totally lost interest. It has gone by fast but at the same time it feels like this is dragging on and on. I am so tired of dieting. I really truly am. BLAH. My weight it yo-yo-ing like it always does on diets. I'll loose 3 or 4 pounds only to go in the next week and gain a pound. and then I'll go in for 2 weeks straight and only have lost .3 or .8 lb. I know I know this is only temporary and the next 14 weeks will fly by and I'll be hopefully gearing up to have my DS. I just had to vent about this stupid ass diet requirement! (again sorry)
Are you required by your surgeon to lose weight or is this to pacify insurance? My insurance never said I had to lose weight and my surgeon didn't require the diet. I gave the NUT and insurance what they needed and gained 22 lbs having a grand old time doing it.
I don't recommend it because my liver is like steak fat from the weight gain. If I could do it over again, I would have tried to lose some weight before surgery just so I was ahead of the game. I dropped 34 lbs the first month and that would have been great if it wasn't recently gained weight. I would be under 200 lbs now if it wasn't for the gain.
Don't take it too seriously unless required by your surgeon. Good luck and hope your date comes quickly.

It is to pacify my insurance.
But they state the I have to be compliant. 80% attendance to weekly weigh in, classes, and monthly visits with the Dr. Also they say they want to see a 10% EWL by the end of the 6 months. Which is 30 lb for me. So While I am not taking it to seriously I do have to loose the 30 lb. I am half way there with the WL and a little over half way left for the diet so that isn't the problem. I am SOOO Over the diets.
My surgeon also has a 2 week pre op diet to loose some weight before surgery for the sake of my liver.
I'm sure when All is said and done I will be glad I did loose the weight pre op. But like I said it is a daunting task.

I jumped those hoops for the 6 months, never took it serious, up 5 down 5...etc..... and finally lost weight the last 2 weeks on Atkins. It changed my open DS to a lap.
I did give up soda during that time and started adding vites.

What will be the healthiest thing for you to do for yourself is bump up the protein, make sure you are taking doses of D3 enough to have a level of 80 or more going into your DS, taking Calcium Citrate, a probiotic, and a Multi. Make sure you are getting in at least a gallon of water a day, and EXERCISE! Exercise for your circulation, your lung capacity, and to build strength. THESE are the things that will give you the best recovery after your DS.
At this stage of the game, I think we are all lucky that we just don't GAIN weight when waiting for surgery. Yes, pre-op it is in your best interest to shrink your liver, which your 2 week pre-op diet will do. For now, do what insurance requires, BUT do what is best for YOU, which is what I outlined above.

Highest Known Weight = 370# / 59.7 bmi @ 5'6"
Current Weight = 168# / 26.4 bmi : fluctuates 5# either way @ 5'7" / more than 90% EWL
Normal BMI (24.9) = 159#: would have to compromise my muscle mass to get here without plastics, so this is not a goal.
