Indecision...or not?

I'm 4 1/2 years post DS.  At my highest weight loss, I was down to 175 at 6'2 and frankly, looked skeletal (very large frame woman).  I'm holding between 198-202 for almost 1 year now.  At my lowest, I wore a size 10 (I've got excess skin that I can't afford to get snipped and it tucks nicely into the front of my trousers).  Now that I've gained 25 pounds, I'm finding a 12 more comfortable, but I cannot help beating myself up about growing out of the 10's!!! (Old tapes playinbg in my head).  I'm almost 49 years old and a BMI of 26-27, which my family MD says is great for me.  So...whaddya think...should I try to pare down to the 10's for vanity or leave well enough alone?

If you are at a weight that looks good on you and more easily maintained, I would stay there. Size is just a number(I know, easier said than done). Being and looking healthy is more important IMO. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I think if you are comfortable with where you are, and healthy I don't see any reason for you to look skeletal and guant just to get into a size 10. Your current BMI is in a normal range, right? I know old tapes are hard to put away, but you should remind yourself daily if necessary, that you are healthy and comfortable.

Remember too that a size is just something someone else puts on the tag. When I was 16/17 years old I wore a size 18/20 and weighed 170 pounds. Now I weigh 205 and wear a 14/16/18. Go figure!

I agree with the others the whole point of having surgery is to be healthy and happy at least for me.  I would forget the number or at least try and find you happy weight instead.  Good Luck!

One more thought - that size on the tag varies by manufacturer, season, and year. It is not a hard & fast number, like your weight or BMI. Or comfort level, for that matter.

You're happy where you're at...you're healthy too. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm 6'1" and would look completely ill at 175. At 185, people were asking my wife if I had a disease. I look much better in the 190s.

Denise, before you decide what you want to do and what you want to weigh, get your body fat % taken so you know what it really is. My BMI is 28 or there about; but my body fat % is in the idea 12-23% range. I used to feel like I should try to get to a normal BMI, but that would mean losing another 35 - 55 pounds and that just ain't a gonna happen unless I get cancer or something similar.

Where would I get this done?  YMCA fitness center?  Sounds like a more accurate measure for someone (like me) with about 25 pounds of excess skin.  Thanks for the suggestion!
