You know I was thinking of you when I typed up the original diddy for this thread, I was pretty sure I remember you saying that the sugar alcohols do impact your blood sugar on a different net carb debate thread.
Given the fact that your body needs insulin to process all carbs, I trust going by your rule of thumb for fiber - blood sugar #'s don't lie!
