Is DS dangerous??

The OP was keeping your conversation private and you jumped in here and identified yourself. If you had not done that, we would not have known that you were the dumbass spouting misinformation. Blame YOURSELF.

And by the way, there are NO qualified DS surgeons in Florida. Get it right.

But you already talked down the DS to her by your own admission.  You broke your own rule, truly showing you lack of integrity.

She can get all the help she needs from us 24/7 and not have to waste another minute with your misinformed close minded, myth spreading propaganda once a month.

The DS takes a lot more skill for the surgeon to perform.  They need special training, it takes more time for the operation, and also the doctor's office must be set up to offer the more comprehensive education and follow-up that DSers require.

If a surgeon doesn't offer the DS why would you expect him to promote it or even want to discuss it?  He would be running off his own patients.  That's like a Chevy dealer telling you that the Honda is a great car.

As to misinformed medical personnel, YES, it is unbelievable what some of them say about the DS.  Any info you get from a nurse or doctor who does NOT work with DS patients is not going to be accurate.

Can the DS be dangerous?  Yep.  So can any surgery.  Does it require more diligence and follow-up on YOUR part after surgery?  Yep.  Does it offer you the best chance of long term weight loss & keeping that weight off?  Yep.

i heard this too at my ntrition class last night. The RN told me I wouldn't get approved as my BMI wasn't above 70. She also told me that I would be malnurished and would be constantly having bowl problems. I just rolled my eyes and informed her of her mistakes (politely of course). She then recanted. It amazed me how uneduated even the medical profession is about this surgery.

I have an HMO - Kaiser - and when I filed a grievance to get my DS covered, that was their first retort - that I had to have a BMI over 70.  That was a load of hooey.  I pushed and ended up getting my DS approved to be paid out of network by one of the top (the top, IMO) DS surgeon out there.

Now the appeals board needed some finessing & some argumentation, but my PCP was very much "listening" when I approached him with my approval, and all the lab info, etc., from my surgeon.  He was totally copacetic, is lookign forward to me regaining my health, and is happy to order my annual labs - this is my PCP through my HMO.

Sometimes it takes some creative medical engineering, but it can be done.  Keep the faith, and weed out the BS with hard facts, not opinions.

Good for you, girl! Already out there correcting misinformation. I can't believe the things some people say about this surgery.

I'm the support group leader Emily talked about.  I can't believe the things some people say about this surgery or ANY weight loss surgery, for that matter.  Every surgery has its risks whether its wls or not.  I just wanted to make sure Emily had done her homework as I'm really concerned about her having her surgery out of town.

Is it possible that your biggest hang-up is the fact that she's, not going "out of town", but is going to Mexico, and you're blowing all this other crap so you don't actually have to come out and say that?
I had to deal with that attitude prior to my surgery, in Mexico, with Dr. Ungson.  I'm so glad I didn't listen to them.  They knew NOTHING of the professionalism of the staff, the cleanliness of facility, and the excellent care provided by Dr. Ungson and his staff.
I would go there again in a heartbeat for any surgical need that could be addressed by him.

My comment was directed to Amanda about a totally different situation, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to reply.

However, after reading all your comments here, you are clearly much too misinformed to provide anyone with real surgery guidance. You should step down as a "support group" leader and educate yourself.
