Is DS dangerous??

I'm the support group leader that Emily was talking about.  Please go back to her post and read the comments I've left for others who have posted.

I agree that I'm not the right support group leader for everybody and apparently I'm not the right one for Emily.  My concern for her came thru in my comment but maybe I should have just backed away and trust that she'd done her homework and felt comfortable with her decision.  With the questions she's posted on the board, I'm not sure she's done enough homework but I'm praying that I'm wrong.

I wasn't wrong about what I told Emily.  There are deaths in any surgery and not just wls ones.  And I didn't ask her to take my advice, I didn't offer any.  I just voiced my opinion and my concerns....having done my research.

I am sure Emily can find all the "support" here that she needs, from people who are living with this surgery choice.  I try to stay up-to-date on all the news about wls so I'm constantly learning.  I, too, click over here for info and appreciate all the posts I read.

Ummm, the point of asking questions is to find out the answer to them. How is this not "doing enough homework"? Plus, who died and made you arbiter of how much homework someone has to do to have a surgery? Again, Emily's been on the OH boards since 2008. Is that not long enough to hang out and get information for you? Tons of information gets passed on to others on this board. Plus there are dedicated websites out there chock-full of information that she's been pointed towards and has apparently read. Is that not enough for you?

And no, you didn't do your research. Asking one surgeon who doesn't even do the surgery about a surgery isn't research. It's myth-mongering.

I think you just don't like the idea of someone bucking what you consider getting a "safe" surgery. In other words, traveling to get the type you want, having a surgery that you consider outside your personal safe zone, etc.

This is all about YOU and not Emily. Wake up about that little tidbit.

A responsible leader would look to learn more and ask her about what she's researched.  You've not done your research on this.  You talked about it with a  doc who doesn't know much about it.  You are a bad leader who is spreading false information and representing it as fact.  You have no business, ABSOLUTELY none being a leader and obviously serve no positive value.

Ah, but she's certified by OH, that MUST make her a real leader!

You have gotten some good answers about why more Dr.'s don't do the DS.  It is all about the money and that's why you will find that the DS Dr.'s really, really care about their patients! They obviously care more about the obese person than the $$$!

Based on statistics, it is more dangerous to stay obese than to have the DS.  Statistically, you have more of a chance of dying in a car wreck on your way to the airport than having the surgery.

You have an excellent, caring surgeon that trained under a world class DS surgeon, Dr. Antoino Baltazar of Spain.

I think your support group leader needs more TRUE information about the DS before she decides to counsel people in their surgery type.

Wow. I can't believe that somebody that has so many "what if" scenarios would get a lap band. The list of what ifs for that piece of crap are endless.

She spouts off about hospitals abroad like a typical ignorant, uneducated and elitist American.? We are in the global age, dumbass...isn't it so VERY Republican of her to think that ONLY American hospitals can be successful at providing medical care?? F***TARD!!! It's Twinkie time, LaWanda...and don't forget to chew 100 times.?

BTW.....Caprice is and will ALWAYS be my favorite! ... with Nicolle running a tight second.
