Ate Asparagus and now in pain

Have any of you all had asparagus since surgery, and if you did, was there any trouble with pain?

Last night for dinner, the only food I ate that I hadn't yet had since surgery 10/2008 was steamed asparagus.  I made it soft and chewed it, I thought, thoroughly. I had 4 spears. But then after dinner I felt painfully full, so I threw up. No asparagus came up though.
I felt pain free after tha****ched the academy awards, but felt bloated with gas.  I woke this morning with abdominal pain, and I still have it.
I'm hoping this is just that the asparagus is slow getting through my system, but I am also worried and may go to the ER if it gets worse.  Pain scares me. I think I will drink more than the usual amoun****er to try and flu**** out.

Any thoughts?

I might look to an earlier meal. Asparagus might have been the last thing you ate but not the culprit.

For me aspargus is akin to some evil little critter digging holes in my gut tormenting me trying to get out...I thought oh it will be good...ate a couple spears cooked in butter and bout 10 min. later I was laying in bed with gut wrenching cramp type pains, wishing I could throw up...it lasted a long time....then it started getting worse..I was bloated and felt like I was 6 months pregnant and had eaten a huge Thanksgiving dinner....

Stupid me wasn't convinced it was the asparagus so I tried it again about 2 weeks later...same results....I won't be putting another piece of asparagus anywhere near my mouth for a very very long time...

I hope you start feeling better soon....unfortunately green beans and brussel sprouts do the same thing to me....

YES!  this is exactly what I experienced.  But that led to serious constipation with additional pain.  The hospital did tests and discovered I needed my gallbladder removed. Mysurgeon also found and repaired a small hernia near my gallbladder.   I am home today from the hospital. My pain was caused by a combination of the three.
But just in case, I am living a life without asparagus from now on.

I eat asparagus all the time.  It is one of my favorites.  I have never had an issue.  Good luck finding the problem.  Hope you feel better soon.

I love asparagus and never had a problem with it, myself, but  you know we're all different.  I hope you're feeling better soon.

I can eat asparagus, no problem.  But, I have never started out with a "new" food and eating more than one or two bites, chewing carefully.  Sometimes asparagus can be full of fiber, maybe that is the problem.

I hope you feel better soon!

I can only eat vegetables in very small quantities or I will get some big time gas and pain.   I also find if I eat raw or slightly cooked vegetables it is worse.   Mushrooms and Spanish Onions seem to do ok with me, but I cook them well.   Sweet onions, peppers and carrots  will cause big time gas and pain..

Sorry to hear your not feeling well.  I had a very similar thing happen last week, although not with asparagus.  There is a pretty virulent stomach virus going around the area--it caused my kids to toss cookies for several days, but for me & hubby it just caused stomach pain for a day or two.

Just a thought.  Hope you feel better soon.
