liverworst
I was at my mom's house today and she had a package of liverworst in the fridge. I looked at the nutrition label and it is FULL of iron and vitamin A. I had no idea! I'd never tried it before and it sounded gross, but I took a tiny bite and it was actually really good. I think they just need to change the name to something more appetizing. Anyway, I can't eat it now because I am pre-DS and it has a lot of fat and cholesterol, but I thought it might be something you guys would be interested in.
I buy three things of chicken livers about every two weeks these days (it helps they are cheap!) and I'll cook them up with some small bits of onion in butter and have a runny yolked fried egg on top of that all on top of a heavily buttered slice of low carb whole grain toast. The liver actually lasts a few meals, so I'll have breakfast ready for the next few days.
In fact I had some of that for lunch just a mere hour ago!
Liverwurst however is usually only part liver, usually just enough to give it the taste.

You know, I've seen Braunschweiger in Walmart (of all places) and wondered what it was. So it's just liverworst in disguise?! Good to know. And you're right, that name does sound much more appetizing. But for all I know, it may mean 'diseased cow intestines' in German. Oh well, some things we are better off not knowing. :)
LOL! Braunschweig is a lovely little city in Germany, and that type of liverwurst is a local/regional specialty that got turned into a more general name for that certain style of wurst. http://www.braunschweig.de/english/
