LOl tried the saltine.  Haven't been munching on blankets in a while.  Kicked the blankie habit a long time ago.

Yes, yes!!! Thank god I'm not the only one.  Motor oil is exactly the taste left in my mouth.  I do take one at bedtime, but the doctor wants me to take them twice a day, so I take one in the morning too.  I haven't tried the Vit C yet.  Will have to run out and get some tomorrow. I've never tasted anything this nasty in my life.

I describe my iron burps as tasting like road tarvey, you know the black crushed hot pavement?  That's my iron burps.  Motor oil is a more accurate description, though.  I guess sign me up for this "exclusive" club.  I'm in good company, at least.

Note to self: add wet blankie suggestion to label

Michelle,

Which type of iron is the most easy on our tummies and has least likelihood of motor oil burps?

BTW, it's USED motor oil burps... Not fresh out-of-the-bottle motor oil burps.   Like the oil sludge from my old '74 mustang that ran hot all the time and ran on 3 of 6 cylinders most of the time!

Poferrin, but since it doesn't exist, the Tender is the gentle one.

And really, aside from a few freaks here, nobody gets motor burps. Shhhh. We let them think they are normal.

So glad you are talking about this.  Exactly the problem I have  - even pre-op.  I hate to take iron supplements!!! I've tried every single kind and I can taste the darn thing for hours - they seem not to digest .

I've been bad, real bad about my iron.  I really do try to take but god, it almost makes me sick for hours.  I tell my doc  - he says "yuck'! and just gives me an infusion when we see that my iron has crashed.  Bad I know, but what to do.  I'm going to try again tomorrow.  I've been trying to chew them with vit c .

Why is this anyway?

Best,
L

This is so bizarre. I've been taking these since the 90's, and I've never burped up any flavor.

BUT, I take mine with food. Food has been chewed, so they land in a soft puddle of chewed food with saliva. Think it breaks them down faster?

I dunno, Don takes his with water.

I have these burps, too.  I take my iron first thing in the AM, then the rest of my meds, including two chewable vites that take away the iron burps.  You could also take a chewable Vit C with them.  But I've found that the only sure-fire way to shove the iron past the burping point is with food.
