Wednesday Hailey update (sorry about last night). Also, New Yorkers, read the last...
Sorry for not updating last night. I've been up at 6am and not getting home til 9:30-10:30pm almost every day for the last week and a half and I passed out last night when I got home.
Hailey's 2nd intestinal procedure went as planned. It took about 2.5 hours. She said when she was waking up in recovery it felt "fixed" even though she was in severe pain. She said she could feel her insides waking up and working this time.
She had a bad afternoon because the Toradol they gave her wasn't working. (No **** Sherlock, an NSAID isn't going to touch post-op pain.) They finally put her on a hydromorphine (Dilaudid) pump, but it caused her blood pressure to drop to 50 on top. So, there were some scary moments, but they got her BP stable and figured out the best dosage of the narcotic.
The anesthesiologist said it looks like she has some pneumonia in her lungs, but I'm not sure if that's confirmed yet. I know she is having some issues getting good, deep breaths, and that it's painful for her to do so. She also has a low grade fever of 100.5, but she also had a temp her first round of surgery last Monday, so just hoping it's a response to the surgery and not an indicator of an infection.
She is on a TPN line, so at least she is finally getting some nutrition and vites. She also said she has a filter in place, and that Roslin put it there because a lot of his DS'ers are K-deficient and he didn't want her to "bleed out." (I don't know anything about this, just relaying what I was told.) It'll come out in a month or so. She still has the icky NG tube, but she has some numbing spray for her throat to help with the gagging. They mentioned she may be able to try clears starting tomorrow, so hopefully that NG tube will come out soon.
No word on how long she'll be in the hospital or how long she has to stay in NYC. I'm glad she came here. She said she thinks she would have died if she had stayed in New Mexico. I prefer not to think about that and instead focus on the fact that she got to Dr. Roslin in time.
Going to see her tonight again. Again, if any of you are in NYC, please go visit her. I am able to go after work, but she doesn't have anyone during the day and having company really lifts her spirits. She needs that right now, desperately. (Thank you Denisse and Teresannyc for going to visit her when I haven't been able to be there.)

Well I'm glad that she's feelin like it's fixed - that's a good sign for sure. I'm keeping her in my thoughts hoping that she doesn't actually have pneumonia though - that's not something she needs to deal with! Poor thing.
She continues to be in my thoughts...
