Thanks for the swinging critters, your good thoughts and prayers!!
They really, really helped a lot!! I have been meaning to update sooner, just got back home to NM yesterday, I was able to get in with a local Dr. and get set up for more iron infusions and an ablation (yay no more bleeding every month) since I am done with having kids.
The DSers in NY were amazing, I would have been all alone if it wasn't for them, I am amazed how we really ARE switch brothers and sisters. Thanks Lori too, for contacting my surgeon for me when this all started. Thanks everybody for everything!!
I wanted to post a short synopsis of what had been happening and happened, I had received a few messages and thought it would be easier to post in here. My second surgery on May 25 to fix this, was two days from my 20 month surgervesary. My weight loss has been amazing, my life has been amazing. If for some reason things hadn't worked out so well for me right now, it was still a better trade off for the months I had in a normal sized body. I would gladly trade 5 years in a thin body than spend 10 in the big one I had.
Again, thanks for all of the comments and well wishes, DSers really do stick together when the going gets tough, and I am so thankful for it. Melody read them to me while I was in the hospital.
Here is my story of what happened: I was having bowel obstruction symptoms since Feb. 09.. they would usually come and it would hurt for a few hours and then I would be fine, that happened about weekly until Fathers day of 09, I was at work and it hurt for hours, went to ER, the only did xray (although I asked for CT) they said it was constipation. Had more smaller episodes, would go to ER for he bigger ones, once I got the pain meds it would stop. Had a really bad episode this past OCT while up Lubbock TX. They actually caught it on the CT scan. They thought I may have SMA syndrome.. where your mesintary artery kinks up and loses blood flow because there is no fat insulating it. After a week stay and tons of tests they couldn't find out anything. I didn't have any episodes until this May, it was the worst. They caught it on the CT scans too. I was lucky enough for it to stop long enough to get on a plane and get back to my surgeon in NY, they were going to operate here in NM. I thought it was going to be a "simple" lap procedure. He had to open me. He tried to untangle me by unhooking the bottom connection only. When I tried to drink anything after surgery I vomited back up, I was choking on my own saliva. They tried to put in contrast through my NG tube and it just came back up.
So a week later I went under again, they put in a pic line (because I hadn't eaten in a week) and and IVC filter. The second surgery he took apart the top connection at the anastamosis where it had twisted.
My iron was lowish to begin with despite my supplementation, I had been asking them about infusions since the first surgery. Well after the second my blood pressure dropped low, my hemoglobin was a 6,, they had to give me two units of plasma and two units of blood, they called in a hemo doc so while I was in there they gave me 7 iron infusions which helped so much. She was mad at them for not calling her earlier. After the second surgery, I remember coming out of surgery and swallowing and just knowing it was finally fixed. So they kept me for a total of 2 1/2 weeks. I was doing ok for the most part, my inscion opened up and I am packing it now. I have a few "spots" on my lungs from laying in bed for so long (despite my walking) so I am just trying to take deep breaths.
I am so thankful to have made it back to Dr. Roslin, he said it was pretty bad it was wrapped around the messintary artery, I am certain that the NM docs would not have sorted it out as successfully.
