I got a electric TM from the want ads for $50.  It does take up some real estate tho.

I think manual treadmills are best left to the experienced and fit exercisers. They are a bit hard to use. And for someone my size it is harder than lets say a 120 lber.

I used to have an electric one. Loooved it. It had an incline, speed control, heart rate monitor, distance tracker, calorie burnt calculator and a cord for shutting it down when you fall the heck off so when you land on your face the treads stop and dont leave track marks on your face lol! Best thing is it was a fold up model. It was really heavy but on wheels so you could fold it up and roll it to a corner for next time.

Try to look on Craigslist in your immediate area. I see them all the time on there fairly cheap. People are downsizing and are getting rid of their exercise equipment and huge discounts.

Have tried them and find the length of the base makes it feel like you can't get a very long stride--and I'm only 5'4".

jenna, i got a walk fit from nordic track--which is space friendly. i'll be honest, i just set it up, haven't used it yet, but i got it back in october. it's now in the living room awaiting my walks--i got it for $30 on craigslist. i went with that for all your reasons, no space, no money, etc.

anyway, you are welcome to come over and try it out if you want.
